Last week someone was being a bit pissy about the Apple coverage and said something along the lines of "oooh, a fingerprint sensor, big deal! I had a Motorola Atrix and it had a fingerprint sensor!" Then made a gesture of swiping his finger down the back like you did on the Atrix as if to say how silly it is that Apple considers that a feature.

Now, I usually don't get in to conversations with these people. They have their mind made up. It's like talking about religion almost. People have their minds made up and just simply aren't open to anything. I'm wasting my time to talk about stuff. Which is why I have really backed off the past couple of months around here because it's the same way.

But comparing TouchID to the fingerprint sensor on the Atrix was just insane. Clearly someone who had never used TouchID. The two are only similar in that they are considered "fingerprint readers" so they would both fall in to that circle but TouchID is so much easier to use and far more consistent that comparing it was just ludicrous.

Now, maybe TouchID isn't a great feature for you. That's fine. As someone who's now required to have a PIN on his device it's amazing. I actively avoided joining it to work email because I didn't want to bother with a PIN. It's been pretty amazing but it only works because of the physical home button, which is OK by me as I also don't like virtual buttons or capacitive buttons. But that's all just my opinion and preference and I'm ok with it if others don't feel the same way I do.

I feel like I've written way too much now and I'm going to hit submit and there's going to be like this massive wall of text no one will ever read.

I had an Atrix back in the day. The finger print reader was pretty useless. When the 5s came out I thought TouchID was stupid too. After using it for the last year, its probably one of the greatest additions to a phone ever IMO. It wasn't until after I factory reset my phone, I was lazy and didn't set up my TouchID, that I realized how much I actually used it. I would pull it out of my pocket expecting the screen to work but realized I was stuck on my pin.

after reading some reviews of the ip6 and plus, i'm kind of having unsure feelings about getting the ip6+ hearing how large it feels to use. but oh well, if i think it's too big, i can always downsize easily. at least this way i will know whether or not the plus is the phone for me. better than having the normal 6 and always wondering if the plus would be better for me.

That is some weird logic, sir.

well i know the normal 6 will be fine for me. so if i went with that initially, i'd probably be wondering if i would like the plus more than that one. so i just got the plus because i'm curious, and if i feel it's too big, it will be easy to sell or return and then just get the 6 instead.

That makes perfect sense, sir.

I'm not a fan of large phones but I purchased the 6+. As I've stated, specs > screen size for me.

If all things were equal, I would have purchased the 4.7" version. But the screen resolution, battery, landscape mode extras and, most importantly, the OIS shifted me over to the 6+.

I'm not expecting to get it for a couple of weeks still, however.

Meh a lot of people I know who currently have iPhones are talking shit about the bigger phones but they are still buying it just because it's new.

So iOS8 is hitting today? That means I can download swiftkey?! :awe:

Edit: ITS OUT!

iOS 8 is showing as available on my iPad mini.

Boy, clearing 6.9 GB on a 12.8 GB (16 GB) device is awesome. Only thing better is the 3+ minutes that it takes to load the storage management.

edit: hey, all my videos, half my pictures, and a quarter of my apps later, I'm there! There as in "update requested" with no actual progress. Yay Apple!

Ugh same. I also don't get why it takes so long to load the storage management.

Because 1GB RAM is more than enough bro.

Same status for my fat iPad now too. At least that one's a massive 32 GB.

Update: mini is actually downloading.

Took a while but it's done. Installing SwiftKey as we speak.

I lied. It's some stupid SwiftKey note. The keyboard isn't out yet :(

Also what's up with the new control panel? It's really ugly.

Let me know how iOS 8 works out. I typically hold off for a few weeks until the first major bug patch comes out as there's usually something that goes to hell for older devices.

More than an hour since I clicked update, and it's still showing "your software update request has been received". Wth Apple.

I think they're limiting the requests so that the installer doesn't hang like it has in the past. Mine held steady for about 15 minutes. But I did it shortly after lunch.

Yeah I got caught up with work and didn't remember to check again until after 2pm. I could've sworn I looked and saw that it changed to 'Downloading' once, but now it's back to 'Update Requested..."

I guess I got lucky then. I tried around 1 o'clock and it started nearly instantly. Took about 20 minutes to download. The "preparing update" step took at least that long if not more.

Finally...having Swype is a godsend. Takes a bit of getting used to on a tablet though.

I just put it down trying to forget about it, and after ~1.5 hours checked again and it's still 'Update requested...". So I turned it completely off, turned it back on, and finally now it's downloading.

Guess they didn't fix the bug where I can't even swipe out of the lock screen and have to restart the device. Whee.
