I've only seen people complain here about 3 of these businesses - Home Depot (I've complained quite a bit), Sears, and (lol) Dillards.
Without certain shoppers, Dillards is now bound to go out of business.

I shop at The Gap all the time, and the stores usually seem fairly well populated.

however, they put out 20-40% off coupons so often that I'd never pay full price when shopping there.

I've never even heard of Dillard's. I went to their storefinder and they said they had "3 Dillard's Stores in Oregon," but apparently their idea of Oregon includes Idaho, Nevada and Montana since the nearest listing is Boise. Geography fail...

Sears doesn't surprise me. There was one nearby, in the same parking lot area as a McDonalds and a Taco Bell, that closed, so they opened a Sears Outlet in its place. No one is ever there. It always looks closed.

Seriously. Gap and Banana Republic (same company) have 25%, 35% and 40% (they're phasing these ones out for 35% it seems) every other week or so. That plus weekend sales, 40%-50% off sale items. I feel bad about paying full price. Makes you wonder what the profit margins are - 1 Sri Lankan laborer + $1 worth of cotton?

Looks like those companies are doing fine, just need to cut down on shit that doesn't sell.

Sears is a surprise. I see a lot of people walking through, and the cashiers are usually busy, but I rarely hear people say "I bought this at Sears" or "my favorite store is Sears".

Home Depot isn't going anywhere. They are still the second largest retailer in the country. They are 50% bigger than Lowes.

Their drop is probably 50% economy and 50% growth in Lowes.

Bah....that list doensn't tell us anything except that the 2005-2007 growth was more than obliterated in the 2008 crash of the markets....rebuilding takes years after a financial crisis like that. I think the 2010 numbers look great considering they're probably even higher this year.

I wonder how my favorite shopping place, costco is fairing (too lazy to look up)

Faring.

And hell yeah, Costco! I love that place. People always seem to think it's just for bulk purchasing, but they actually rock for almost any grocery shopping. Their brand (Kirkland) is also pretty damn good.

I only ever really go to Sears (because I walk through it on the way home) and Home Depot on occasion. WTF is a Dillards? 😕

KT

same but if it died i wouldn't care. I try to spend my money on local shops anyway.
I only shop there when I want better quality lumber like for shelving (their suppliers deliver a better product than Lowes around here) or when I have a gift card to burn.

Home Depot.....I never see workers there when I need help with something...the only time I see them is when they're getting in my way or slowing me down. Last week I bought some plumbing fittings...the lady working in that part of the store asked if I needed help. I told her no, but she insisted. She didn't know what fittings they had and did nothing but waste 5 minutes of my time. When she realized she was going to be no help, she didn't even explain...she just walked off and started sweeping again. Worthless folks! 😛

yup.

but if not for the sales, I probably wouldn't be shopping there at all.

JC Penny is where i usually get my clothes. Killer deals almost every weekend. I can usually get nice dress shirts for $15-20 and slacks anywhere from $15-25 a pop. Not too bad compared to the Dilliards which is usually around $30+ for shirts and $40+ for pants.

Try Kohl's, its even better!

I'm sure Dillards drop is due to their managers running their stores into the ground and not bending over and taking it up the ass from their ego-maniacal customers.

There's only one name on that list where I spend my money...Home Depot.

Funding right-wing billionares who are trying to put Chris Christy in the White House because Obama is too anti- rich. lol. 25% drop in sales for Sears is catastrophic.

Home Depot suprised me. I was under the impression that the home improvement business was up as people realize they will have to stay in their houses longer
