The 7900 DVI Corruption Thread

It looks like 158.24 was the last working driver for these cards, anything after that gives horrible DVI corruption in the form of diagonal lines or dots, always taking the dominant color of what's on the screen (usually green). 158.24 was released months ago and nVidia has been aware of this problem but nothing's been fixed yet. This means anyone trying to play Bioshock will have to use buggy drivers. Does anyone have a fix or working driver after this version? or has these cards but doesn't get the problem.

I noticed in Vista that it only happens after I logon, not at the logon screen itself.

Here's a pic of the problem.

By the way, if anyone updates and gets this problem, just go back in safe and roll back.

It looks like the fix depends on the situation, some people said using the monitors resolution scaling instead of nVidia's fixed it, some had to underclock. But the problem is still there either way.

I have been using the 91.47 driver dated August 11, 2006 with both 7800GS AGP and 7950GT.

Updated only once to 93.46 (or something like that), and didn't like the shadows in NHL06 - they became like a solid grey instead of a smooth shade.

Will upgrade (?!?) update only if/when I have to, for the new OS or a new card.

But... I am running the XP.

Yeah I had this issue prior to me selling my POS 7900GT. If I recall the "fix" ended up being that you had to slightly OC or UC your ram frequency. How stupid is that? Between that and the BF2 memory leak (only with NV baybee!) I built an XP rig around it and sold it. I replaced it with Gecube X1950XT and haven't had a problem with it yet. Hope it lasts.

I have never noticed this on my 7900 GS GO when plugged into a DVI display. (vista business x32, latest dets)

I think it was the 7900GT's that were especially affected. If you recall, the 7900GS was a tweak of the GT that they introduced to mitigate the design flaws found in it. At least that's how I always saw it. the 7900GT was just one mess after another...

Underclock by how much? I'm at 620/805 right now, would 610 be enough or do you mean down to stock?

Nah, what worked for me was having riva tuner load my OC at startup. From what I've both read and observed, it doesn't really my by how much you OC or UC; it's just changing stock that's important.
