The 6770's on newegg are nothing more than exspensive 5770's

Sure, it's a rebadge and it sucks.

Not sure why anyone is surprised, the 5770 is the best selling DX11 card on the market. And holds that position by a fairly hefty margin.

It only makes sense to keep on selling it. It performs adequately and is at a sweet price point for most Joe buyers. Nvidia did the exact same thing when they were in the position with the 8800GT AMD is in with the 5770. Heck, they made about six or seven different cards rebadging the 8800GT. That sucked too.

Get used to it I think. AMD is sitting in what is the best level of success they've had in terms of the quality of the products they have out in the VC market. Expect to see more rebadges if this continues. If it was nvidia who had been as successful with DX11, they'd probably have some sort of rebadge out now too.

Who, what, how, derail, bait, spin, up, down, left, right, no matter how you see it, the fact is this rebage from a 5770 to a more expensive 6770 is FAIL.

Why defend it?

I agree, quite sad but all we can do is vote with our wallets. Even if we do get the word out there will be plenty of suckers who pay waaay too miuch for this card.

Great Post!

you arent understanding. I know you are a green team fanboy who is utterly way behind when it comes to single card multidisplay, so I will say it plainly

the # of outputs doesnt matter.

5 series cars can drive THREE MONITORS. unless it says eyefinity5/6 on it. period.

to do 5 screens with the basic 6770 you need a displayport hub, and it will drive 5 screens.

I have dual 5870's, and I am limited to 3 displays, even with 8 outputs between the two of them.

if sapphire isnt lying, with a dp hub you can do 5 screens.

they have added features, via either fw/bios or a new chip somewhere, on top of the existing 5770 architecture to make it do this.

just so you dont continue to be confused, unless the card says eyefinity5(thanks to another poster, forget they started making those towayds the end of 5 series) or eyefinity6, it does 3 displays, period. no matter the outputs.
Your mistaken. Every 5 series card does not offer eyefinity. The powercolor 6770 does not have eyefinity, they dropped the display port. You see this on MANY, 5670's, 5450's after the initial launch of the 5 series came and went.

I'm not arsed looking for the rest but you've been told numerous times that the avg. 5770 price is actually higher than the 6770 price, yet I haven't seen you even once responding to either of these comments. You still go on with the same blablabla 6770 is more expensive, when it is actually not true.
Nobody is defending it, I hate re-badges but you've taken this out of proportions. It's a re-badge, fine we get it. At least AMD isn't charging more for their re-badges.

+1 and PLEASE moderate this nonsense already. How is one supposed to stay ON topic in a topic where the topic title changes every 1 hour?

reporting this topic for obvious baiting from the OP.

It is funny to watch the same people who would shake their finger at nV for rebadging try and justify it for AMD.

Since when were GPUs like political parties, where you blindly defend or attack based on party lines alone?

Between this and XFX, AMD has been getting some bad press lately.

reporting this topic for obvious baiting from the OP.

Good luck with that. Trying to make this topic go away by getting it locked won't work.

You will be surprised to know that the mods changed the title while I was sleeping.

Just continue the discussion and forget about the freaking title.🙂 please.

the fact is this rebage from a 5770 to a more expensive 6770 is FAIL.

And when you posted this you changed your thread title again.

The fact is a 6770 is no more expensive than a 5770. I'm sure you will keep posting the same thing over and over again, but it doesn't make it true.

I'm having trouble finding any posts where people aren't saying the re-badge is bad business. Some people appear ambivalent and some people have issues with the presentation of this thread and some of claims being made in it.

Could you please point me to the posts where identifiable nVidia-antagonists are actively trying to say the re-badge is good?

We have some good mods on this forum, I'm sure if they thought what I posted was misinformation, I would have been told, infracted, warned, ect ect, ect.

Lets get back on topic and leave me personally and the mods out of this.
They can do there job without help.

Thanks:thumbsup:

A few posts up somebody tried to justify it by saying it is a good selling card. That is defending the re-badging.

If a guy got arrested for beating his wife, and I said "Well, she did kinda nag him all of the time," you would say I was defending him. Even if I didn't come right out and say "Yea he shoulda hit her she deserved it!" 😉

I can see some people are actively attempting to get this thread locked by attacking the OP and derailing. Let's keep the topic on the rebadge.

Wow. It's also funny seeing the same three guys jumping for joy at this thread like its some kind of new revelation. "THE SKY IS FALLING!" AMD has rebranded a video card. Neverthless, from what I've seen, most people have condemned this practice, myself included. But, that wouldn't make it so great with the Let me stick it to the AMD fan thread, would it?

People are showing their true colors by not condemning this in the same fashion they did the G92 rebadges.

I condemned nVidia when they did it and I am condemning AMD now for it. I just looked at the Saphire 5770 vs the Saphire 6770 on Newegg and the 6770 was $10 more but was missing the X-Fire bridge. Others may disagree with me but to me that is a rip off. I don't think HDMI 1.4a support is worth the price difference.

The post from Groove that starts with "Sure, it's a rebadge and it sucks"?

Where does he say the rebadge is a good thing?

The first thing Groove said in that post was: "Sure, it's a rebadge and it sucks."

I'm not an expert on language, but that sounds like a pretty explicit negative judgement on his part.

The rest of his post appears to say two things:

1) It is easy to understand why AMD would do this.

2) Given their market position this should be expected.

It seems to me that #1 isn't a justification or a defense. I can say that I understand someone else's justification while still finding fault with it. To mention a justification is not to advocate that justification or agree with it. This is the classic distinction between use and mention.

I disagree with #2, but that is immaterial since it doesn't need to be understood as positive advocacy either. Saying "I think this business decision should have been expected" is not the same as saying "This business decision is a good thing" or even the weaker version "this business decision was not a bad thing."

As to your analogy, I need only mention Hume's old point that the greater the distance between the two things being compared by analogy, the less relevant that analogy is to the topic of discussion.

I would hope this thread accomplishes a few things.

First and formost, to warn potential less tech savy video card upgraders of this shady business practice.

Second, to have AMD and Nvidia fans rally together and show both Nvidia and AMD that this practice does not make its faithfulll customers happy.

Third, to try to stop this from happening again.

Is anyone against what I'm trying to accomplish? If so please tell my why.

Nope, all for that. Just could have been done better.

This card was announced as oem quite a while ago, and now AMD is shipping it as retail model, to me is a sign, that any 28nm part is still 6 months away. A 28nm part would be faster, cheaper at the same die size, if they could make it.

Considering you have half, if not more, of the current thread participants arguing against you, I'd say you are facing abject failure. Particularly, because your wording betrays your ambitions.

Why do you only want to rally AMD and nVidia fans? I'm not a fan of any company, nor am I a fan of any video card. Do you really think that most, or even many people, are "fans" of video card companies? This is called projection.

What will stop this from happening again is negative press attention from websites like AT. I think their response, as well as the response on other sites, was strongly worded and will reach far, far more people than your thread in this forum. The ability to "stop this from happening again" is certainly not within your power.
