No I will not look at the range of 5770's, why should I?

Its much easier to compare the Sapphire 5770 with the Sapphire 6770 and the Powercolor 5770 with the Powercolor 6770.

Both 6770 models are more exspensive for basically the same card with a inferior amount of video outputs and assesories.

Why? I would think to rip off unsuspecting customers, and thats what this thread if for. See post #55 Destiny says "But if it wasn't for informative forums and threads like this... I would've thought it would be a really cool piggy to upgrade to... "

Then guys like you come on here and say weeelllll its not sooo bad and defend this kinda crap.

AMD has changed their naming scheme. We've already been over this when the 6870 launched. This isn't at all surprising nor unexpected, especially since it was just a few months ago these cards were in the OEM sector. Nor do I think it's that bad. Or at least, not as bad as you want everyone to believe with your overreactions. It would be even worse for AMD to release a retail card called the 6770 and have it be different than the OEM 6770. Now that would be confusing. Having cards with the same number perform differently....

Mate, is that the only part of my post you understood?

The only story here is that the 6770, a rebrand of the 5770, has hit the retail shelves. nVidia can take comfort in knowing it is not alone in not being able to design a better and cost efficient solution than the 1 1/2 year old Juniper chip. All those who bought it in the last year and a half feel good to know that your purchase has kept it's value for so long. Also, apparently will continue to do so until the next generation, at least. All hale mighty Juniper.

The Radeon HD 5770 was a great video card so the Radeon HD 6770 will also be as good. Shame they didn't increase the core speed of the 6770 but that's life

Information doesn't need to be sensationalized. That is exactly what you're doing now. Spreading FUD like a viral marketer and using catchpenny titles. If I didn't know any better I would think the 6770 is a crazy glue sniffer. "Building a model airplane," says the little 6770. Well I'm not buyin’ it. Next thing you know there’s money missing from the dresser and your daughter’s knocked up. I’ve seen it a hundred times.

Perhaps you should retroactively go back and warn people of the HD 6800 series. Warn them of the GTX 460. Warn them of the GT 520. A warning? Seriously? A warning :| Warn them of the upcoming GTX 560.

It's not the thread I have a problem with, its good that you let people know that the 6770 is a rebadge, but the title is a bit too much.

Yeah, I would defend them cause the might have the same GPU, but the cards aren't. Some 460s are more expensive, cause they have better coolers or different PCBs. The sapphire 6770 is more expensive than the sapphire 5770, but its also cheaper than most 5770s and has a better cooler and HDMI 1.4a. So I think the thread title is incorrect. and Happy is blowing this all out of proportion.

Agreed... I am not happy about AMD doing this, people should know but Happy is taking it out of proportion.

To be fair to Happy, I know some AMD "fans" did the same during the 9800 debacle, so perhaps he feels the need to tic-for-tac.

AMD, users, "fans" have to know that there is going to be some backlash from the time nVIDIA did the same though.

Take it on the chin and feel equally as disgusted with the rebadge, is all you can do. I actually bought an 9800GT during the rebadge drama (knowing that it was essentially a 8800GT).

There is some differences like there were with the 9800's, and from what I can see the prices are inline with other 5770's so a none issue other than it's a rebadge.

So, thank you for the information regarding the rebadge Happy, but not the way you've gone about it.

One good thing about AMD themselves, is they're not trying to hide the fact it's a 5770.

Happy, I think your title is a bit overboard.

We all know that this is a rebadge, but some people might not. I don't see how anyone should have a problem with that part of the title. But, the pricing appears to be right in the middle of the 5770's (actually on the lower end of the range)... so depending on what you want to do with the card, it may be worth it to go the 6770 route, it may not be.

From a 3D performance perspective this is a straight rebadge. People buying a card in this price range for gaming should be aware of that and consider the 5770 when making their purchase.

From an HTPC perspective this is not a rebadge. The 6770 is an upgrade in some areas.

The 5770 on Newegg ranges from $110 to $160 (I'm not counting the Eyefinity 5 model at $220, that's kind of a specialty card). The 6770's are $120 and $125. They fall right in line with 5770 pricing.

You just calling it sensastionalism doesn't really specify much, or if you have found flaws in the facts or if they aren't facts at all? Let us know.

Excluding the ridiculous patina of altruism that some people like to put on, can someone explain to me how this is a particularly bad thing for them.

More specifically: What aspect of this re-badge will cause an identifiable harm to you?

I agree that it's a mildly shoddy marketing strategy, but I really can't see how this affects me or anyone here, in any way.
