Have we had any confirmation from AMD that this card is a model that they are releasing for general retail sales? The reason I ask is that so far we've seen one model at one retailer. Could Best Buy have put in a large enough order for these to get XFX to make it for them? Could it be left over OEM models that Best Buy has bought up?

I would assume that we have, since AT has done an article basically stating as much and there's even mention of a 6750. I don't see a direct reference to AMD stating that in the article though. It's alluded to, but not plainly stated.

Sorry if I'm being pedantic. Just trying to get it clarified.

The 6770 and 6750 will begin showing up in retail today at all the usual suspects.

I remember it being rumored that it was a simple rebadge, but then I recall seeing AMD slides that showed the 67xx parts having a higher clock speed. But as it turns out, it's just another meh rebadge.

When Nvidia did it, it was novel. AMD is just following now, so it's not shocking anymore.

Oh, and AMD isn't raising the price as Nvidia did.

It's a testament of how good the chips are to allow for re-naming. They're still good chips with nice performance and feature abilities.

Didn't have a problem with the 8800GT to 9800 GT or 9800GTX+ to the GTS 250 or the 5770 to the 6770.

They're rare and the exceptions to the rule and a testament of their engineering to allow chips to last many generations.
 
Never like to see this done no matter which company is doing it, but as long as they keep it to overpriced OEMs and B&M retail stores (where it actually makes sense) I can tolerate it. I don't even remember the last time I bought a video card from either one. If you want the good stuff at a good price you buy online. :thumbsup:

The two cards that OP linked are NOT FROM THE SAME BRAND. The 6770 is XFX and the 5770 is Asus.

For a more valid comparison, the following is a link from Bestbuy, the XFX 5770:

Newegg has them. They're pretty much the same price as the 5770, although some 5770s have rebates to bring the price a bit lower.

I don't see anyone praising this move by AMD, I'm certainly not. I can see why they did it, I doubt there was much fat to trim from the 5700 GPU already, and being stuck on the same process probably limited their options. I think the 68x0 should have actually been the 67x0 and the 57x0 should have become the 66x0, and so on. But it is what it is, and I don't see anyone happy about rebradging.

I was just looking at the Sapphire 5770 vs the Sapphire 6770.
The 5770 has 2 dvi, hdmi, and a display port and the 6770 has only one dvi,hdmi and disply port, but the 6770 cost 30$ more shipped AR and 10$ more without rebate

So you lose an video output and pay 30$ more for the 6770 vs the 5770. Oh and the 5770 gives you a crossfire cable worth another 10$ at least.That sucks.

The 6770 just released. Every newly released card will not have deals and will not have rebates. And in recent history, cards have released incredibly overpriced relative to other cards up front price (GTX 550 Ti to the GTX 460, HD 6790 compared to 5830). This card isn't terribly overpriced**

There are only two models of the 6770, and 15 different 5770s. Only three 5770s are priced below the two 6770s. The rest of the 5770s are more expensive, some with rebates.

You don't lose a display output, either, as you can only use two of the DVIs and HDMI at the same time on the 5770. You can't use all three at the same time, so there's really no issue here. But since you're comparing those two Sapphire cards, the 6770 should have better cooling as it would allow less restriction to air flow.

**I really don't see what the problem is with pricing. In two weeks, maybe sooner maybe later, the cards will saturate the market and prices will go down and rebates will pop up. Much the same way there are many 550 Tis are not $150 anymore like they were the first week or two. You're making something out of nothing.

If one card releases thats the exact same card as another without as many outputs and no longer comes bundled with a x-fire cable for 20 to 40 $ more without or with rebate, thats because its new?
It not new its a inferior card with less outputs and less bundled items and the same performance for more money.:thumbsdown:

1. one of the dvi's and the hdmi port share the same display out. thus these two can never be in operation at the same time. your example of using three displays with 2DVI and 1HDMI is impossible with either card.

2. no cf cable, that is the decision of the AIB partner, not AMD's. i am certain there are other models that offer the much prized CF cable.

If I had a monitor with a displayport and 2 monitors with dvi's could I use the 6770 without a adapter? I would think not.:thumbsdown:
Since it comes with a dvi to vga adapter, I would have to buy one.

2. I was comparing the cheapest Sapphire 5770 with a Sapphire 6770, the 5770 comes with a crossfire cable and the 6770 does not. So yes it does make a difference.:thumbsup:

By your defintion of "exact same card", do you realize how many different brands of the same model number there are which are exactly the same?

But in reality, there are several different configurations just for the 5770, with different display outputs, different heatsinks, different bundles, and a different price. And right now there are only two 6770s on the market. But hey... I guess if you use examples that are on the outside of the bell curve and ignore context you can say just about anything you want.

So, let me see if I can figure out what this is all saying... You can get a better deal on the 1 1/2 year old model from a manufacturer than you can on their newest release. Is this your point? Well, stop the presses. This is really big news. (Well, not really 😛)

We all get that this is a rebrand. It looks to be designed as a budget model, as well. Hell, there doesn't even seem to be a reference design. It must be a really slow news day for this to garnish so much attention.

Man you are really confused. It's about context, and nothing about this card is in any way surprising, good or bad. You fail to understand this.

Look at the range of 5770s on newegg. Pretend the 6770 is named the 5770. They would fall right in the middle, pricing-wise, of all of the 5770s. And compared to other similarly featured (by Visiontek and Biostar) cards, the 6770s are actually cheaper. But not a whole lot. For all intents and purposes, they are the same price.

This card is no different than some manufacturer releasing a new SKU of the 5770. The difference is just the name. Price wise, performance wise, feature wise... the 6770 is practically the same and falls right on the average of what other 5770s offer. And I have I mentioned the card just came out and in two weeks will probably drop in price, see more SKUs, and get rebates yet? Oh wait, I did...

I fail to see why you are so excited about this. OMG why are you so invsted ANGRY about this card to call it a piece of turds? Rhetorical question, we all know the answer.
