OK, it is the time. At last ..

This is the official 4th Annual Folding@Home Holiday Season Race thread.

If all act quickly, we can start December 1, 00:00 GMT.

Please post in this thread if you want to take part. I'll then compile two teams (in the past races it has been TAS vs Folders) and December 1: all go.

Here are the rules:
1. Have fun.
2. Let others have fun.
3. Crunch as much as you can, as often as you can and as efficiently as you can.
4. Assimilating computers, adding members to the teams, switching teams, borging is allowed.
5: (Sid's rule) Whistle while you work; DON'T whistle while you sip.
6: (Sid's rule) No pouting.

Time frame:
Start: December 1, 2009, 00:00 UTC
End: January 1, 2010, 12:00 UTC

():) Anybody there who really wants to collect the stats at 24:00 between December 31 and January 1? No? I thought so ... ():)

I'll ask the mods to pin this thread until January 3rd, 2010.

Edit: Nov. 25, 2009:

Now, team-members of the teams, find some good names for your teams!

We need more participants!

Please remember: recruiting, assimilating, borghing, adding CPUs and GPUs are encouraged.

The stats-master decides into which team new recruits go. The reason: to keep the teams as equal as possible and thus to keep the race interesting.

Please see my post of December 3, 2009, further down!

Thanks Petrus!

Sign me up :)

We need a little more info on it but it looks like for those who have a computer with at least eight cores, includes an overclocked i7, the most efficient client (best PPD) is the one that runs fahcore_A2.
That would be Linux/Mac SMP client with "-bigadv" and "-smp 8". It can be run in native Linux or on Windows/VMWare Player 3.0.
The reason it gives best PPD is that a bonus is given for quicker return of results. The faster it is done, the bigger the bonus.

Requirements: A Passkey must be used. Ten core_A2 WUs must be completed before a bonus can be given (the 10 can be the smaller, quicker finishing WUs).

I'm in! I'll have to brush up on F@H stuff, and get all my computers up in 2 weeks flat... wish me luck!

Maybe I'll just get half of my computers up and get the rest up by the second week or something...

I'd be interested. Just installed Folding@Home to make use of my GPU. I felt dumb since I only get to use my new desktop MAYBE two hours a day and thought I wasted the money. Then I remembered the Folding projects and decided to give it a shot!

Of course, my machine isn't on its way to beating any records, but it will do what it can!

So... how exactly does this work? Trying to run F@H as much as possible December 1 - 31st?
