The 4870 and Linux

Is anyone running Linux with their 4870 that can comment on how they got around the fan issues?

don't tell me that fan is running 100%... I had that issue with X1950 years ago.

No, in the first crop of 4870s the fan doesn't spin up properly as the VPU heats up. Under windows, its easy to edit the XML profiles to manually control the fan speed. I'm not certain the same system for profiles exist under Linux.

Doesn't look like anybody here knows.
