I guess I got it to move on to another WU, and now it's working again.

it could just be a bad WU, I have seen that on occasion.

I think Mark's right. It got a bad WU and then wouldn't move on to a new one until it had failed a certain number of times (3 or 5 depending on things I don't understand)

You did the right thing to just clear it out and move on. (It's always good to check that you get a different one after you clean it out. If not, clean it out again until you do get a new WU.

All 3 of my rigs had those monster 2673 SMP WUs (fahcore_A2) that are worth 3840 points.

They're finally done!!:p

He & his family headed down to southern Sweden to spend the new year holiday with his in-laws.

It's a 16-18 trip but he will be in contact.

Not sure about stats though.

MarkFW, did you ever get those new cards?

Did anyone else add new hardware during the race???

I did notice MaskAvenger's production nearly doubled recently!

Also, the TeAm's production went from about 480,000 ppd in late November to about 650,000 ppd in the last few days!!!:shocked:

Awesome crunching everyone!!:beer::thumbsup:
I upgraded from an X1950 Pro to a HD 4830 :), although I didn't do it for the race, I did it because my 1950 was showing corrupt graphics & needs RMAing ;).

Well that sucks??????. :disgust:

I seem to have lost a PCIe slot on one computer. (A Dell slim line) I have tried to get 3 different cards to work to no avail. The integrated video works so now it is just SMP for that bad boy. Of course I can?t tell whose MB it is but I?m thinking it is ?light? duty. The OEM power supply is only 125W, and I bought a 550W PSU just to run a 9800GT. :| The computer still had numerous issues with ?EUE? and ?Unstable_Machine? errors.

I doubt the output of that one card will have much impact on the race.

Whew?????..

PS: I'm here to tell you the slim line computers do not lend themselves to upgrading or modifying...............

I changed my Vcore from 1.35v to 1.375v. Now, instead of taking ~110 minutes to finish 1 percent, it takes ~70 minutes to complete 1 percent.

I'll change it to 1.400v later on tonight. That's as high as I can go. We'll see what happens.

Thanks for the help guys!!

Rabrittain, There is more to it than just upping the voltage but we will take that one step at a time. Monitor your temps.

Run the Smp only and see how it reacts. 70 minutes is still way to long....should be around 15 - 20. As an example, mine (Q6600's) can do 12 - 18 depending the WU. If the Smp isn't around those times, then work on the Gpu and see how it goes. Good luck :)

Could be one of the 12V rails in the PSU failed. I thought my PCIe slot in my asus board failed. It had similar symptoms as your situation. No video card (not even old low power boards) would work but the on board video did work. I crunched for months with the system (Q6600) without solving the problem. On a whim, I replaced the power supply and it solved the problem. Weird!

Yeah, I can't post there any more.

I noticed I wasn't receiving emails on my subscriptions asked a couple of times, but didn't get any help. So I went to preferences and changed my email hoping that might help kick-start whatever the problem was.

Unfortunately, the site says it sends me my activation email, but it doesn't arrive. All spam filters are off and no problems with any other site. I should probably assume my IP addy was inadvertently blocked when they were trying to stop the spammer and blocked a bunch of addys. They posted all that all errant blocks were restored, but mine still doesn't work.

I can't say I 100% believe it isn't a 'convenient accident' but it's my own fault for not being PC and singing their praises no matter what. I can't say it's a loss to me to stop posting on any site as vindictive as that.

such is life.

Hip-hip--hooray!!

Drsignguy --
I decided not to run the GPU and to run only the SMP on the faulty machine about 3 days ago. ~1.5 hours ago I increased the Vcore to 1.400 volts, and from what I've been able to see, it's slower than it was with the Vcore set to 1.375 volts. It's been over 90 minutes, and progress hasn't moved a percentage point.

There are 2 things that I haven't tried yet. I haven't uninstalled and re-installed the video drivers; nor have I taken the video card out and swapped with the one that is in the Intel machine. That would be the video card that was in the AMD machine before a week ago, when I decided that it might be good to run a GPU client.

It sounds like you're getting great numbers with your quad and the SMP clioent. Concerning my machine that has not been giving trouble: on it's last wu it took ~24 minutes to process 1 percent. That wu has just been completed. It is now working on a new wu, and it is taking ~46 minutes to process 1 percent. -- ... but when that wu is complete, it will give me 2144 points. Before a week ago both of my AMD machines were running like that -- depending on the wu, anywhere from ~24 to ~46 minutes per percent.

When you configure your SMP clients, do you enable the option regarding advanced methods. The warning that is attached to that option scares me a little bit, and so, I have not been using it. ... then again, I am a little paranoid.

uh-oh. My meds just kicked in. My mind has all but shut down. gotta go to bed.

see ya!

rabrittain,

Well, just watch your temps as you go through this process. Just so you relize, there is more to the system then just by adding more voltage to your Cpu, But since you are not Over clocking and you can't go over 1.4v, I think your safe for now. And since you changed your voltage, found no real evedence of instability, then yes, you should try your other options.

As for advanced options, here is what I have done:

Make a shortcut to your desktop, Right click on properties and at the end of the target area place your curser, hit "spacebar" then add "-configonly" (no quotes) then save. Open your Client and follow below:

User Name: ( thats you )
Team Number: 198
use Proxy: no
Acceptable size: Normal
Change advanced options: YES
Core Priority: Idle
CPU usage: 100
Disable Highly....: no
Interval in Mins: 15
Memory : Whatever you have
Set -advmethods flag alwasy: no....this will be added later
Ignore any deadline: no
machine ID: 1 (2) if another client. Make sure Your Gpu (if using) doesn't conflict, Set the Gpu to 3
The Following Options.......no
Disable Cpu affinity: no
Additional client parimeters: -smp -verbosity 9 -advmethods -forceasm. You must have -smp added as a flag or it will NOT be SMP client.
ip address: just hit enter.
After completion, remove the -configonly flag.

That's all I do and don't be scared, it won't hurt your machine:)
I hope that you do get your issues resolved. It would be nice to see you get a good PPD turnout after all this work! :)

Thank You biodoc!

Great stats!

I see you have slipped around me for the month (I was trying to hog the road).
NICE folding!

This has been a terrific month with so many people trying out the folding project. I'm also hoping any one who hadn't met each other (TAS and F@H) has found some new friends.

and YES! we are going to get that PC of rabrittain's up to speed.... if it kills him!
(As a matter of habbit, I always use the same flag set that drsignguy mentioned: -smp -forceasm -advmethods -verbosity 9 and always say yes to big work units.)

rabrittain, Are you absolutely certain you have all power saving features and/or automatic 'performance adjusting features' turned off? (both in BIOS and in Windows).

Also, I think you also mentioned, but have you run a spyware cleaner such as AdAware and also scanned for viri (I think that is the plural of virus??)

One more thought, I know that the SMP threads use the loopback adapter (networking component) to communicate amongst themselves. Any weirdness in your network adapter?

Finally, I think I remember you mentioning a question about the .net framework. I don't remember which version of .net was mandantory, but I have allowed all .net framework windows updates (1,2, and 3) on my PCs. Actually, have you run ALL the windows updates? (I'm thinking AMD processor driver update in particular)

OK - I set the -advmethods flag on the machine that is not giving trouble. It takes 44 minutes to process a percent.
