Um, how many people do you know can do 25 pullups in a row at both the start and end?

I've heard of this kind of training before...it's not your typical workout but quite effective. Kind of similar to CrossFit which is popular in Dallas. Every military guy/athlete I've met whose tried it once there swears it's helped improve every aspect of their fitness.

Not saying its easy or that I can do it, I just found it interesting that they seemed to use momentum a lot more than I would have expected. Usually form and control with eliminating the swinging of the weights is what people strive for, so to see these people swinging as much as they were shocked me a bit.

Because of this article I did decide to do more pull ups today, and tried those kettlebell press and cleans with dumbbells.

Because they are 'kipping pull ups'. They are easier to do then traditional strict pull ups. Different aim.

I always have to laugh when people think they can look like a particular person by following their workout. Genetics is 90% of the equation - any decent routine and diet that doesn't involve anything too illogical will allow you to grow to your own potential.

Note I am only referring to training for the specific purpose of improving one's physique. I am not couting strength or sports-specific training.

Because guys that are already that buff are uncoordinated meat heads? Nobody has abs like that just for kicks, you have to train it very specifically.

according the website, the crew went through the training together to become a cohesive unit that trusted and depended on each other, so such feelings would translate well on the screen.

It's more of a function of low bf% (good eating) and decent ab training. Neither of which is 'that hard'. You just have to be CONSISTENT and to COMMIT time to doing it.

People who claim a bf% of 10% are a joke when they don't have any abs. It's because your not actually at 10% and or you have poor ab development.

I'm guessing because a large number of those non-speaking parts are filled with stunt actors. Can't just easily substitute a stunt actor with a conventional actor.

I used to be able to. I had a pull up bar screwed into the door frame, for the hallway between the common areas and my room. Every time I went by it I would bust a bunch out...got up to 32 once. Alas, that was some time ago and I'm back down to around 12-15.

This, from the article, is "the 300 workout"

25 pullups, 50 deadlifts with 135 pounds, 50 pushups, 50 jumps on a 24-inch box, 50 floor wipers, 50 single-arm clean-and-presses using a 36-pound kettlebell, and 25 more pullups.

He recommends try half of this first, a couple of us just did it. Its hard. I'm not in the best shape I've ever been in, but fared pretty well. I finished in 6:45, my one friend in 7:34, the other in 9:03. Actually, what hurt me the most was my grip - I have a very weak grip and usually use straps when I'm doing things like deadlifts, by the time I got to the last set up pullups I could barely hold my own weight. The box jumps take a lot of wind out of you too, especially if you're not in great cardio shape (which I'm not).

edit: to clarify, we did all the same weights, but less reps. I'd suggest trying it...fun

I'm curious as well... I've been down to 3-4% body fat and I barely had a 6 pack at the time (cross country). Right now I'm probably 8%, and I have a 4 pack.
