While I did have a stick go bad in a 2x1gb DDR2 800 set after 2 years of use, OCZ's support is top-notch. The replacement set was identical, the shipping was fast, and the experience was hassle free. Plus, not to mention, I've had more sets of crucial go bad than I have OCZ. While Crucial's support wasn't bad, it wasn't as fast as OCZ's. As long as a company will stand by their product and do right for the customer, I say there's no reason to trash OCZ. In the end, I've always had a working product from them. Just my two cents. Take it or leave it.

Has there been any reviews of the 2x4G memory as far as overclocking and performance?

I see tons on the 2x2 setup.

4GB sticks seem to be mostly ignored in reviews, as they are still relatively new tech with lower yields and speeds. Prices seem to be falling though, so it looks like things are getting better for non-overclockers.

Other brands are coming down to the $230-ish level now, and Newegg has a shell shocker on Ripjaws 1333 for $200! I wish I could buy it, but the heatspreaders are too tall for the machine I'm building.

I would love to use all 6 slots for 4 gb sticks (24 gb of sexiness). I would much rather just get 3x2 gb sticks and go up to 12 gb for a bit less.

Here is a G.Skill kit 7-7-7-18 at 1.5V. Its 1066 but you can get a 1333 kit for the same price ($170) but higher timings (9-9-9-24)

No. You won't see a difference unless you're benching.

Timings are the same. 1333 just has a faster output clock.

If you can find G.Skill 2x4GB 1333 rated at 7-7-7-18 at 1.5V for $159, start a new thread because that is a smoking deal. Hell, even at $169 it would be a great deal.

you can get the 1 4gb stick of the 1333 Ripjaws for 69.99 with free shipping, It's sad but most of the kits of 2 or more actually cost more instead of less than buying individual sticks currently the cheapest 1333 sticks are the Muskin Silver line stuff followed by the Gskill Ripjaws theY seem to have identical specs save the heat spreader 1.5V and cas 9 across the board. They really get you on the 3 piece kits it costs 20-30 more than just buying 3 4gb sticks.

its more of a a guarantee than a necessity. most same make sticks will work well together, but sometimes they will have problems, by getting a matched pair you are guaranteed not to (with warranty replacement if they do)... supposedly they actually bin them to match up better, which also helps with OC.
Oh, it also helps with bait and switch... manufacturers often make a high quality stick, get it reviewed, then switch to crappier budget design and chips with identical model number and name.

the problem of unmatched sticks has certainly been exaggerated by manufacturers to ensure you buy more sticks.

Convert timings to nanoseconds, not cycles. They're basically the same.

Using grade school arithmetic.

1066MHz = ~.93 ns
1333MHz = ~.75 ns

Difference in rated latencies is too small to round down to 8.

Seconds = 1/Hz
1000 miliseconds = 1 second

1066 Mhz = 1,066,000,000 Hz
type into calculator and hit 1/X and you get 9.38 * 10^-10 seconds.
a nanosecond is 10^-9 seconds. So it converts out to be 0.938 nanoseconds.
