Yah, what's up with that? 0-60 in 7.6 seconds or so is plenty respectable. Altho I admit the new crop of cars out now are faster, but it's still better than most of the cars out there. Low RPM torque is really fun, too. 😀

<< Big mistake IMHO. I wouldn't pay $40k for a Passat. I'd rather have a loaded A4 or a prev-gen S4 and screw the W8 over.

The W8 makes no sense to me in a car like the Passat. Who the f*&k is going to buy a W8 Passat?? The fact that a Passat starts at $21,000 and goes to $40,000 shows you that VW is f*&king around too much with their product lines. Anytime you can DOUBLE the price of the same basic car, I say that you are adding too many features to a car that doesn't deserve it.

Get a loaded 3-Series and drop kick the Passat from here to timbucktu.

Nah I seemed to remember VW was making a supercar or something so I wanted to cover bases just incase. Looking at the pics of the link below are they joking with those wheels? I mean they have to be, right? I hate to be a nissan fanboy but give me a fully loadex maxima and a lovely home theater setup with the cash left over.

Or give me an audi for pete's sake!

No... I've driven a late model golf though 🙂 I'm sure the passat is a nice car but it's still a VW. You could take an audi and do nothing but replace its badge with a VW badge and you'd have to sell it for less. I simply can't imagine anybody "paying $40k for a VW".
 
I think you guys might be surprized... I think they will sell better than you think... But, we shall see...

I disagree. Many car lines in Europe do this. Like Mercedes. They have cheap stripped cars used as taxis, and cars from the same line that cost three and four times as much in the highline versions. Mercedes chose not to do this in the US market to keep an upmarket appeal and image.

This gives us a lot more options. It's something that I've wished we could have in the US, but I don't know if the US market is ready for it. But I doubt it will last. I have a feeling VW will slowly drop it's lower end options and cars and start reaching for the luxury market as planned.

I see your point, but the numbers are being exaggerated.. Passats regularly sell for $33-34k for the GLX V6. If fact id even venture to say that i have seen more V6's than 1.8t's since the introduction of the new B5.5 style. Granted $6,000 is a large difference in price for the W8 (from the V6), but to compare that to a $20,000 price difference in Kia V8 is obsurd.

Skoorb, so you are saying a Focus is the same as a Lincoln with a bigger engine? The same company makes both cars. You have not spent any time in a Passat if you think it is a big Golf. These are entirely 2 different vehicles.

A lincoln is larger and more luxorious than a Focus. A passat is also larger and more luxorious than a Golf.

Course I'd never personally pay $40k for a ford either.

My problem with this passat is we have a vehicle that fully loaded goes for low/mid 30's or something and they jack in some new gear to raise the price. It's like a nissan sentra with 270 horsepower costing $33k...hmm actually that would sell.

I don't know I'm off to sleep. I don't wish any ill will on VW. I'd still rather have an audi!
 
Screw that, I'd rather shell out about $7k less and get a 2k2 WS6, or a 300GT VR4, or, a number of other cars, because that car sucks ass.

Your comparing apples to oranges. Were talking about luxury sedans, not sports cars...
