Another: 3 Kings WTF?

It was a decent movie, but it was basically Oceans 11 in Iraq.

Overall a pretty good list, though I haven't seen them all. I would say that Schindlers List and the Pianist don't really fit the genre either, though they are both great movies. Given the quality of the movies in the list, movies like Blackhawk Down, We Were Soldiers, and many other top notch movies were bound to not make the list. Such are the shortcomings of a Top X list.

The Thin Red Line? That steaming load of crap?

The Thin Red Line is one of the best movies ever made....You probably watched it expecting Saving Private Ryan 2, which it is not....It is a movie that deals with complex issues though I suppose...

You need to watch more Korean War movies.

Tae Guk Gi is one of the best War movies EVER made

Silmido is incredible. Its basically Band of brothers except a more concentrated set of characters and more on the psychological aspects of war

It should go like this:

1. Patton
2. Tora Tora Tora
3. Midway
4. The Great Escape
5. The Enemy Below

I'm sorry, but I've yet to see a Vietnam movie that wasn't some horribly overdone political statement.

You seem to have a bias for a certain war. 😀

Given the state of the US during the Vietnam War, I think a film about the Vietnam War that isn't a political statement wouldn't be a very good film about the Vietnam War.

I didn't care much for The Deer Hunter though. Perhaps because my expectations were too high going in.

Or because it made U.S. soldiers look like a bunch of whiny 9 year olds?

i have seen:

Sgt York
MASH
Patton
Letters from Iwo Jima
The Bridge on the River Kwai
Braveheart
Das Boot
Full Metal Jacket
Platoon
Apocalypse Now

i really like Tora Tora Tora and We Were Soldiers

what about 'enemy at the gates'?
i quite liked the movie and showing a battle that hasn't previously been shown too much

I agree with the list for the most part. Not sure why there's so much hate for three kings. It worked as an action film and as political commentary.

Not sure what astroidea saw that he thought was Band of Brothers but neither "sweet effects" nor "patriotic hollywood action flick" describe it.

I guess The Manchurian Candidate doesn't qualify, but I thought it was kinda sorta a war flick.

I liked Black Hawk Down but it's pretty overrated by ATOT apparently.

Empire of the Sun - very good film, and it has John Malkovic. nuff said.

and...as others said before, Band of Brothers. Doesn't need to be a movie to be the best war movie ever, its just THAT good. Amazing series.
