I'd like to have one too, but am opting for something with better MPG, and no premium required.

Also note that while many people are happy with their 06+ Civic, many people complain about noises and rattles. Someone claims Honda is working on a fix, maybe new engine mounts. Check edmunds forums if you don't believe me.

i love my 06 EX. unfortunately you are right though. there is a damn rattle behind the dash that i can't get to. it is annoying as all hell too.

other than that i would say get the car.
Be sure to have the dealer check it. Might also call Honda yourself and tell 'em.

Why wouldn't I buy it?

Because I think the Mazdaspeed3 destroys it for only a grand or two more 🙂

destroys may be too strong a word.

automobile mag dyno

the 50+ HP difference on paper turns out to be 36 HP at the wheels.

the turbo lag on the mz3 is pretty bad, you can see it on the dyno that below 2500 rpms even the civic makes more torque, so drivability may suffer.

the mz3 also is ~200 lbs heavier.

the magazine times for the mz3 are good so far, but it remains to be seen if all the production units will turn such good times. Mazda overrated several cars in the past couple years, the RX8 almost no one can match the early magazine numbers.

Why do you need navigation? Have you been able to find where you're going without it in the past? Then why pay the extra for it? I don't get it people.

That said, I certainly wouldn't mind having one.

It's very handy, trust me. It also adds to the resale value of the car.

Handy I can understand. Not being familiar with Chicago I think a nav system would help out greatly when I head up there.

But resale? No way will you get much return on that. They cost $2000 up front. It's probably one of the lowest ROI you'll get on options. Leather and sunroofs yes, Nav no.

I didn't say anything about ROI. Just that it will add to the resale value when it comes time to sell. Do a search on used cars and you'll see that I'm right.

Edit-The NAV adds $1750 to the cost of the Civic Si and just for kicks I looked up the dealer retail value of a 2005 Honda Pilot EX w/leather. Without NAV dealer retail according to Edmunds.com it is valued at $26,690. Same exact vehicle with NAV is valued at $28,198. Don't tell me that it adds no value. You're just plain wrong on that.

I think you might be talking about high boost threshold, not lag.

I was toying with the idea of buying one a few months ago but we bought my wife a 2006 Lexus IS250 instead and I'm rolling in her old car ('03 Nissan Maxima SE).

My rides!

Nice cars

My gf has a 2004 TSX. I believe it's the same engine from the RSX type S, correct me if Im wrong. Anyways, I know it's a 4 door sedan, and she has the auto, but I like the smooth transmission and it's still plenty of fun to drive.

Of course it'll add to the resale value, but what's the point of an ordinal comparison?

Like what? Not trying to argue with you, just curious as to what you think would be a better value for a bit more...?

Cobalt SS is a much more refined car when it comes to speed & handling.
VW GTI
MazdaSpeed3
WRX
Mustang GT
Charger RT

All cars above can be had for aroud $25K some less as rebates/discounts apply.

Lets not forget about cost of ownership either. The SI should have significantly higher insurance than all of it's competitors.

Mazda3 s 22k base price, nicely loaded base model, fast
WRX 25k base, awd, fast
Mustang GT 25k base price, very, very fast
Eclipse V6 GT 23.4k base price, fast
Saturn Sky 24k base, convertible, nicely loaded base model, fastish

and above all, they all look better than the fugly civic.

I a big Honda fan too and a previous 99 and 00 Si owner and even so, I think the new SI look average ar best.
I love the engine, don't like the looks.
I happen to like the looks of the tC alot more.
I would get a Type S or tC before the ne Si.
