some glaring omissions:
anything from yngwie
flight of the wounded bumble bee by nuno bettencourt
play with me - nuno again
Brain Dance - Annihilator / Jeff waters
still of the night - whitesnake
all of the bill and ted bogus journey guitar tracks - Steve Vai

metallica one? really?
i would rate the interlude of master of puppets way higher than One

i could go on and on, but obviously this is subjective opinion

Give me a fvcking break....

How about a bowl of soup, a bus ticket and a kick in the pants?
:disgust:

You got to be out of your damn mind to think that Smells Like Teen Spirit deserves even to be in the top 1 million greatest guitar solos.

I am very surprized that Vai is not on there. I am not a guitarist but I do know a kickass riff when I hear one and Steves "Passion and Warfare" is just an awesome disc.

If I had to give my 2 cents for favorite guitar solo it would be by John Pertrucci of Dream Theater. There is a tune called Voices on the Images and Words album. The solo on that tune cannot be turned up loud enough for me 🙂 So much emotion in the playing of it also.

Dave 🙂

yet, you can't deny the influence that smells like teen spirit had on the grunge movement as a whole, and as such, that's probably why it's ranked so high.

Pretty good list. Hard to argue with it. I'd order a few of them differently, but I think you nailed it over all. 🙂

agreed... I think johnny be good should be up higher personally. Saw thread and immediately thought of the number one, go me.

It's supposed to be a list of greatest guitar solos, not a list of the most influential bands that happen to contain guitar solos.

technical virtuosity is but one way to judge solos

So in what way could you possibly judge Smell Like Teen Spirit's solo on a level of the other solos on that list?

the fact the solo is the core theme of a song that is credited with bringing alt rock/grunge to the mainstream. I'm not trying to defend its placement that high, I don't think it should be either. I'm just trying to explore reasons for why it would be placed so high.

I am young and I know this probably doesn't belong on the Top 20 but I have always liked these:
Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down
Bat Country - Avenged Sevenfold** Particularly awesome guitar Solo towards the mid-end of the song.
The Jungle - Guns N Roses
I'll Be There for You - Rembrandts
No Leaf Clover - Metallica

Again not saying they belong on the top 20 but I have always thought these had great guitar parts.

Yeah great guitar solos, nowadays played by little kids trying to learn how to play guitar. Where are Satriani and Steve Vai?

KRYPTONITE? It's the same notes repeated over and over! WOW
And Bat Country only had that marginal guitar part in that song, the rest was pure ****** imo. Dragonforce had a sweet solo in Through the Fire and Flames.
