edit: Hey! When did I turn into a "Golden Member"?

Wow ! Are those C2D's@3.2 ? Thats 9000 ppd ! I get ~1760 out of a C2D, and 5 of those is about 9000. Far from the 3,500 you are starting with.

So what are they ?

You are paranoid, and so early. 😛

Fastest box is an e4500 @ 2.55Ghz. Two slower Opty's and 2 P4D's....

Wanna buy me a quad?

I haven't tried the PIII's yet, because they don't have .Net 2.0 installed in the base of XPe...

Yeah? You found one? Dude, you're the only one not on my RADAR! BTW, our little tête?à?tête is one of the few things that actually puts a daily smile on my face. More fun!

so am I correct in figuring that the race doesn not begin till 2pm Eastern U.S. time, tomorrow, Dec 1st...did i figure that correctly?

OK, guys, no more wining from me, I give up. just a little banter for fun.....

How many hours left till we start ?

Let the games begin !

That's what I calc'd.

As said in the first post: 20:00 UTC, which is:

23:00 Russian Time (e.g. Moscow)
22:00 Eastern European Time (e.g. Helsinki)
21:00 European Time (e.g. Stockholm, Paris)
20:00 GMT (e.g. London)
17:00 Mid Atlantic time (e.g. Reykjavik)
14:00 Eastern Time (US e.g. New York)
12:00 Mountain Time (US - e.g. Denver)
11:00 Pacific Time (US - e.g. San Francisco)
09:00 Hawaii-an time

Or in an other way: in 16 hours and 20 minutes I'll read the stats again ... and the race starts.

Pacific Northwest? -- you don't need to start for at least about 24 hours -- you've got plenty of time, Mark. In fact, with that UTC stuff, you probably don't need to fire up until mid-day Sunday. Cool your jets.

Hmmmm, isn't that just a tiny, weeeny, smallishly, minisculy misleading? 😉 :Q

The race starts when the statsmaster starts the race. 😛

Oh hell. I'm all about whining. Wait till I start getting my butt kicked. 😀

Perfect timing. The race starts and all of my parts from newegg and clubit have showed up.

I'm in th process of installing ubuntu and should have a X2 4000+ folding away shortly. This is a replacement for an old A64 2800+ that was at 2.4ghz.

I tried ubuntu on my new quad. The setup locked up after 5 minutes ! (the bar stopped moving for 10 minutes straight, 7.1) So I gave up and put XP on it. Should I have waited longer ? is Linux faster than XP ? Oh, and that was at stock. The same setup is now running 3.6 so it wasn't an OC created problem.

Okay, first thing Monday morning I'm asking my boss if I can run this on 3 idle dual quad core xeon servers (that's 24 cores for the arithmetic challenged).....that should make things a bit interesting.

(I wouldn't get to worried though TAS, it took me damn near a month to talk her into letting me run it on my workstation)

It took me about 30-35 minutes to install ubuntu and it was not too cooperative (had to redo it twice because it didn't like the cd and kept saying it was scratched).
Now it's time to try adding F@H.

Can you remove the password from the admin account in XP once the SMP client is installed as a service? Or should I turn on automatic logon so the machine can reboot headless?

I don't think it needs the password to install, I think the MS file mpiexec.exe is what needs the password.

I didn't know that the SMP client could be run as a service, it had problems early on I think.

The SMP client says it works, bas a service, but it does NOT. I tried. And it does seem to need a password. As to whether you can take it off, I have not tried. I just leave them on all the time, and I set mine to allways assume administrator is allways logged in. I rarely have to enter the password.

Ah. I figured it would run as a service on next boot. OK. Manual console or startup folder action. Check. 😀

Ok, I'm still fighting with ubuntu to get it to recognize my realtek 8185 chipset based wireless card. Doesn't look like the new X2 will be folding tonight. Ugh.

Jim,

It won't start properly (consistantly) with a shortcut in the startup folder.

I have read somewhere that a password from Stanford is needed and I have obtained one. Where shoud that password be used when running SMP and Windows version of the program?

@Uppsala9496
Ubuntu and WLAN is a bad combination imo, I've had a lot of issues with it.

@all:
The SMP client has a noticable speed advantage in linux, that's why running it in Vmware gives you a nice credit bonus!

For those running Vista: UAC prevents the SMP client from running properly!

Jeez, I was getting the same error with the 64bit image.

I finally hooked up a USB DVD drive I had laying around and that worked fine.

I couldn't get fah6 to run...then found that I needed to install the 32bit libraries to get fah6 going. Apparently the client is a 32bit app but the a1 core is 64-bit?

F@H claims the ver6 SMP linux client is 64-bit only at download page :frown:
