It would be nice to hit 700k, but I don't think I will make it in December.

I agree. It has also a very high post count - which is more unusual:
we are 33 crunchers, some few are not posting at all, but most are ... :D

well, I now have 4 of those crappy 306x units that do almost 50% of the normal ppd on the same box ! Time to complain again about their point system ? A 3.5 ghz Q6600 only doing a little over 3k ppd vs 5k normal with the 2653 units ?

Its killing my numbers.

Thanks for the stats Peter. On the final stats, will you be posting in this thread or making another? Just wondering, so that I can be sure to save them and archive them. :)

I have not thought so deep about that yet ...

some short time passes

I'll post the stats here. I can also send a PM to you (and to those who wish so) with the stats. It is easier to archive. OTOH: this thread may be worth saving anyhow ... ;)

I just finished a couple of those too!

Very very sloooow.

I need to go to the Standford site and try to understand the point system;)

I know it's there somewhere.

Well, the vets. know why I am

When you're done, please send me a link (f@h forum scoring threads are always priceless!) I double-dog dare ya to mention to them that the point system needs a re-look.

(I try to go there once a year or so to purge my soul... and 'discuss' the scoring system with them')

I lifted this from the Stanford SMP FAQ here

"How do you decide the credit value of SMP work units?

Points are determined by the performance of a given machine relative to a benchmark machine, similar to the CPU client benchmark process. Before releasing any new project (series of work units), we benchmark it on a dedicated Macintosh Pro with 2 - 2.33 GHz Dual Core Xeon processors. (more specifically, 2 Woodcrest 5140 processors with 4 MB cache (each), 5 GB FBDIMM Memory (667 MHz DDR2), 1.33 GHz Bus)

We plug the results of this benchmark test into the following formula:

points = 1760 * (daysPerWU)

where daysPerWU is the number of days it took to complete the work unit. "

On top of that I believe a 50% bonus is tacked on for SMP WUs.

I still don't understand why the point variation though? The above is MacOS but I don't see much difference in times running 1xSMP on linux vs Windows.

Cheers!

Thanks for the states Peter

Either I'm not as tech savy to participate, or I'm too busy laughing to actually post ............... I won't mention any names........ ;)

But I have enjoyed the race and I learned a little bit about Vista and SMP...............

The TeAm as a whole is a great group. It is hard to believe threads go on and on without a single flame erupting.

Here is to a happy and prosperous New Year to everyone. :wine:

Well, we gotta have goals....

While Mark is going for the top century, my present goal is to try and find a way to get up to 1/2 his production.... :D
