It makes me worry about the future of humanity that the last hard money, low tax, non-imperialist, pro-civil liberties, States' Rights president we had is 176 today. He was probably the most virtuous President ever.

Anyway, I guess the fact that we haven't had a Jeffersonian President in more than 100 years ago means that republicanism (and all that the anti-Federalists stood for) is well on its way out.

Happy Birthday to Grover Cleveland! A great American president and patriot.

He was one of the greatest presidents that we ever had and its a shame how there are so many idiots in this country who would prefer big government and tyranny over liberty.

We need more of our politicians to be like Grover Cleveland

Ever the delusionist, huh?

Cleveland did exactly the wrong thing in the face of the panic of 1893, contracting the money supply, creating the worst depression in American history up to that point. It's the same favor the rich stupidity that Mellon used in the early part of the Great Depression.

It's what "Conservatives" always do- exaggerate the business cycle so that speculators will profit. Easy money on the way up, hard money on the way down really puts the bone to the commoners, quite intentionally. For those of enormous wealth, deflation is their best friend.

Good job on bringing your partisan politics into this thread celebrating the birthday of one of the greatest American presidents.

Is this the first thread in AT history about Grover Cleveland?

I wouldn't be surprised if this is. He was a great American president and patriot unlike much of the scum we have now and its sickening how there are so many threads supporting our bad presidents yet nothing about Grover Cleveland.

Obviously, you'll deflect & bloviate rather than address the point I made.

Unsurprising.

A420 has a romanticized crush on ol' Grover, expressed many times. He yearns for the good old days, when Robber Barons ran the country & guys like Grover helped them to maintain the social order & the power structure. His intervention on the side of the railroads in the Pullman strike proves that.

You really need to let go of your hatred of the rich its not healthy for you. I have done nothing wrong or stolen from the poor so your claims about the rich are just wrong.

So, uhh, Grover didn't make hard times worse for the little guy with hard money, and he didn't send out the Army to crush the Pullman strike?

Who benefited from those actions, anyway?
