Well it seems that you anandtech guys are the most familiar with opterons anywhere. So anyways I ordered s939 opty 146, and some ppl on other forums are saying they will require "registered" ram. Since a lot of you guys have opty's can anyone tell me 4 sure? thanks 😀

The new opteron is basically just a rebadged version of the current San Diego cores, that are used on the A64 3700+, 4000+, and FX 55 and FX 57 these processors use the same cores same everything just different name. The opterons are produced with higher yield silicon therefore they are more likely to hit a higher OC, like the many of 3ghz you have most likely been seeing.

So treat it as a normal A64 socket 939, because thats what it is.

i'm used two, they don't need registered ram (though apparently the cpu cache is ECC), i don't remember if the venice had that

skt 939 baby 😀 I ordered 146 skt939 from tgstores/ecost for $167 with ship, I'll let u know when it arrives 😛
