when my sister bought a computer from dell for use at purdue i made her put xp pro on it and told her i wouldn't fix anything on it.

Only downside is I am right here in town. Plus if I refuse to help she calls home, cries to Daddy, and 2 minutes later I receive a phone call from home.
All the more reason to put the computer back to stock specs and tell her she's on her own.

Why don't you make her call Dell customer support? Buying a Dell should have absolved you from having to fix her f^ck ups especially since she had the nerve to blame you for the problems to begin with on the box you built. I realize she's family but she shouldn't blame you for things then come begging for help. Let Dell deal with the headache. :)\

Sounds like she could also really use something like GoBack by Roxio.

Dell won't handle the issue because it is XP Pro on there while it was shipped with XP Home.
Any particular reason that such a unknowledgeable user would need XP Pro?
Why not just put it back to stock Dell specs?

She wanted it installed since she bought it.

I formatted a computer this past weekend that I built a couple years ago and 1 day after they get it back, its already messed up. I give up. They are on dial up and they insist on having 5 different user accounts. Thats a cool thing and all but I hate it and they don't understand the concept of memory.

Haha, techsupport sucks. Gotta hate people like that, do them a favor, and they keep asking for more and more :p.

I'm glad my brother knows more than I do, and I know more than enough.

My friends on the other hand are idiots, and always looking to ME for advice/help. I hate it.

I have a friend who's mom asked me to check her computer out. She had that damn homepage-network crap that keeps resetting her homepage, she was getting popups, all that crap.

I sat there for over an hour cleaning that computer out, even put in a few speed tweaks and it was working like a champ.

A week later, my friend tells me it's doing the same thing again.....his mother is thinking about getting a new computer.
So he brings the tower over, and I check it out.....same crap in there again.

Turns out, HE is the one surfing crap sites and causing the problem. Told him to quit that crap.

I clean it out again, he takes it back.....2 weeks later, same problem.

She calls Dell, buys a new one, gives the old one to him.

Not really, he's got the old one screwed up yet again, and he can't even get on the 'net now.

Mission accomplished for your friend..
