Texas rules. Hands down. That's why I hate living up here in the North (Virginia) And yes it's the North!
Skip all those history classes in school?

Yeah but in Texas you don't get the miserable weather in the winter like we do here in Massachusetts.Originally posted by: beer
I am a liberal, a rarity in Texas. I live in Austin - a true bastion of liberalism. Having lived in the midest and the northeast, it's hard to contemplate leaving Texas.
The highway infrastructure is massive. It's very easy to get where you want to go. Very few roads are tolls - unlike NJ, you don't pay to drive on an interstate, and there are no bridges that make you fork out mucho dinero to go 2 miles.
Schools are funded with property taxes. This means that property-wealthy districts have tremendous achievement. The UT system of schools is alright - Texas is a tier one school, excelling in business, engineering and law - with relatively low tuition.
You don't pay 'luxury taxes' on things like cars. Just normal, reasonable registration fees - much less than in the NE or Cali.
For as conservative as Texas is, it's reflected more in your freedom of choice than in restrictions. Unlike Connecticut, as cited above, Texans sure as hell don't let the state tell them they can't buy alcohol after 8 PM. As stated above, beer/wine sales until midnight daily, and 1 AM Sundays.
Some counties are dry, in that you can't buy liquor, and some are completely dry - no alcohol sales, period. Those are local ordinances and reflect local referendum, not an overzealous state government.
Yea, there are a lot of churches, especially the farther west and east you go, away from I35 and 45. Living in the metropolitan areas is awesome, as long as you're not commuting hours from suburbia.
Texas is pretty good, on the whole. Yea, I don't like the religious conservatives, but I would rather have a low tax burden and low cost of living and freedom to do what the hell I want rather than appease Massachuttes liberals with state income taxes, excise taxes, county taxes, hundreds of dollars in vehicle fees, etc. etc.

That's ok. A new law was passed and subsequently enacted January 1 that bans the importation of dumbasses, so you couldn't come here even if you wanted to.![]()

Boston: Today: Periods of snow. Temps nearly steady in the low to mid 30s. Winds NNW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 80%. About one inch of snow expected.
Austin: Today: Cloudy with a few showers. High 74F. Winds WSW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30%
Although in the summertime, the temp/humidity are brutal in Texas.
