Thats it, I will never buy a Mr. Coffee coffee maker again.

All I can say is that the higher the wattage of the coffee maker, the better tasting the coffee will be. The closer the water reaches higher temperatures, the better tasting it'll be. So look on the bottom and pick up a coffee maker (which ever brand you decide) with higest wattage. Generally 1000W+ are great, but might be a little pricy.

Check out these!
Only thing I don't like about it is you have to have a thermos to pour your coffee into after brewing.

From the makers of the Aerobie, comes the Aeropress, a new twist on the French press... http://www.gizmag.com/go/5051/

I saw it on digg and thought it was worth a mention. I'm still using my free Gevalia coffee maker and when that dies, I'll either get a french press, this aeropress, or perhaps that Cuisinart.

I've been happy with my 20$, 4-cup Mr.Coffee unit from Wal-Mart... :D

It's been reliable for the last few months.. We'll see if it withstands the test of time.

It would suck to not have the morning coffee, but wouldn't be the end of the world. I've forgot to put grounds in and such the night before and woken up to a pot of hot water. :p lol

I usually have a Mt. Dew AMP when I get to work anyway.

wtf, B&D, in general, makes the_worst_ products wrt reliability across most of their product lines. Tools, coffee makers, whatever it is....

Krups is good. A little pricier but you get what you pay for.

Agreed. When they made a lot of stuff in the US it was ok for light use. But this new junk they have is just bad. I got one of their jigsaws and it gets hot to the touch and is worse then the cheapy one I have at home.

But for coffee maker, just get a basic $20 one if you don;t need a timer or clock. I have a $20 one I use for ONLY tea. never had a problem. Go to Target and get one that is in the $20ish range that has no extra stuff you will use.

No coffee maker is going to last forever, but in my experience Braun and Mr. Coffee have been decent.

I am probably on my 12th coffee maker since I left home in 1987 at least
5 of them have been Mr. Coffee brand makers.

The first bad one I remember was one that just did not get hot enough, it never did..I finally threw it out and bought another. I went several years without incident until I bought a Brawn that lasted like 2 months and died. I swore to never spend over $50 on a maker after that.

Anyways about 2 years ago I bought a Mr. Coffee maker and it was jsut poorly designed because it leaked water out around the spout area. After 6-8 months of that I got tired of it and tossed it. I then bought this wonderful $12 no-name maker that I really miss because it never gave me any issues..broke the caraff? on that one.

Bought another Mr. Coffee maker after that and am still using it ...all was fine until one day I went to poor a cup and the damn filter door had
popped open, what a mess. I figured it was a fluke until it happened again. Its not broken, its just a crap design is all..add too much coffee and slow down the filtering process and she gets too heavy and swings open..activating the "sneak a cup" lever and before you know it you have grounds and coffee running all over.

Anyways this one is only 2 months old ..I am done with Mr. Coffee.

Anyone want to recommend a reliable coffee maker? I prefer a standard style filter and just plain coffee...I dont want anything fancy , I just want some hot coffee in the morning. :)

Sounds like it has a bent valve.

For drip, Bunn with thermal caraffe is pretty good. French press is also very nice, and cheap.

Melitta one cup manual coffee maker

It is a plastic cone that sits atop your coffee cup. You place a paper cone filter in the cup, put in your coffee grounds, and pour hot water into the grounds. You will have to get a kettle or boil water in the microwave. In some ways it is much easier than an electric coffee maker, and it is a lot easier to clean up than a french press. It makes a really good cup of coffee.

ah so it works? i saw one at bed bath and beyond, they have em with mugs included too. the filter funnel is the smaller type cone though so you aren't going to be able to filter much coffee at once. i tried to filter french press coffee through a paper filter in a basket from a mr coffee for kicks once. it takes a while to go through and looks like it might cool off a bit like a french press does so i figure its better for a coffee maker to constantly drip hot water over the grounds for a steaming cup o joe.

still an interesting thing for 3 bucks.
