money is just crap anyway... life is for creating memories and on your deathbed you will have some great ones....enjoy sir and please let a few of us live vicariously through you...

just make sure when going walkabout, you are prudent, but not close minded.... so many of us in this country have been brainwashed and educated to the capitalist mantra that it is all we know...

there is know better way to appreciate life and love then what you are about to do...

Like another said, why not just take a sabatical? (sic). Our department here has a program where you can leave for up to a year or you can ever take some like 3 months of extra vacation and have your paycheck for the rest of the year go down to cover the prolonged absence.

sorry, but money is a big issue. paying my bills 6 months in advance would pretty much wipe me out, whether i cut back on spending or not.

I would honestly love to just drop everything, move to a carribean island and just do some little job there for $10/hr if I could. And just do this for a year or 2.

The thing is, stuff like that is very hard to do if you are not from the country you want to move to.

I say go for it man and don't look back!

My cousin did something similar to this. Had his buddy watch all of his possessions, went all over the world for over a year. Went to Thailand, down to south america, etc., hiking all over the place. He had a blast, and has permanent memories to last his whole life.

I am getting to old to do something like that myself, too many obligations. Do it while you're still young and enjoy it to the max.

Yeah, I wanted to travel around the world. So, I worked and saved for a few years after graduating university then quit my job, gave away all my stuff and bought a one way ticket to London. Ended up traveling for several years.

I figured I better do it b4 I got married etc. Also thought it would be waaaay more fun to do it young & single than as a geezer.

This is an interesting subject as one of my wife's best friends who works in a prestigious Wall Street firm quit her job b/c she couldn't take it any more.

She's single and approaching 40 and she said WTF do I live this boring, unsexy tiime consuming worklife for?

So she quit and took 8-12 months off to return at another company that less demanding and includes lots of travel.

Currently she's doing cooking & French classes and biking tours in S. of France. Next she'll be going to Asia (Thailand, etc).

She says it's the best decision of her life.
