Let me see if I understand.

If Trump had, post-election, continued with the vow to prosecute Hillary, progressives here would say "Well, at least he's keeping his promises."

And not, "Dear God, he was serious."

I'm sure.

Sometimes you are damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Anyway the point is pretty much nothing at this time he campaigned on does it appear he will actually do. It was all bluster. Bait and switch. Pandering for votes. Shameful.

Can you imagine how you would feel/react if you put your faith in something only to have it betray you?

What are the stages of grief again? I think it's going to be a long, tough, process for the right to be able to get over the fact that they were used and bamboozled. I suspect violence or suicides will be up for the older white male demographic in the next few years.

I think most normal Trump voters would've been horrified if he had been serious.

Bullshit. Trump's campaign always was weaponized insincerity played against institutionalized ignorance, fear & loathing. The only thinking among his followers is rationalization for believing his latest act of charlatanism. In their eyes, he can do no wrong.

Pumped & dumped? He's had a lot of practice.

In this case, only if I'm completely crazy. As I said above, I think most normal people didn't think he was serious. It was just bluster intended to convey to Hillary that she was a criminal who got away with it.

Uh huh.

Uh huh.

It wasn't intended to portray anything to Hillary but rather to portray a false image about her you obviously believe in wholeheartedly.

Of course not. It's a way for people to vent.

BS, IMO.

1) They weren't spouting this crap before he started it.
2) No civilised person says, e.g. "it's OK for someone to use the N-word if they're just venting".
Words have meaning and power. Even the Donald, a 70 year old with the temperament of of a 3-year old knows that.

You've approached a very important point here.

If a presidential candidate says something, as it's a very important position they're campaigning for, the default position any sensible person must assume when that candidate communicates is that the candidate is being serious. Unless of course they're evidently joking, however if the joke is in bad taste then many people are likely to treat that as a serious matter.

The problem with Trump is that he talks so much bollocks that his supporters can use the "we don't think he was serious" card as often as they like. A sensible person would have concluded that if a presidential candidate talks a lot of bollocks, they're not suited for the role.

At this point I'm wondering what the key points that most Trump supporters were actually banking on him honouring when they voted for him. The results of an honestly and sensibly conducted survey on this question would be interesting to read.

Nonsense. Trump did not start it. It developed organically. Trump never said "Lock her up", he just rode it for all it was worth. It wasn't until the 2nd debate that he mentioned prosecuting her, iirc. As for the N-word, blacks use it all day every day. Sometimes to vent, sometimes as a term of endearment. Sometimes just to hear themselves say it. But, somehow, someway, white people can't say it? Stoopid.

Oh jesus, that old chestnut.

I don't know how many more of those Trump wild-ass campaign promises he's got left to walk back on or outright dismiss, but I have to say that it's an outright tragedy knowing he actually got elected from vociferously campaigning on those lies. And I have to admit that I don't have an ounce of sympathy for those that are going to get betrayed by Trump because he's already well into that phase of his tenure and he hasn't even taken the oath yet. Imagine that. That chronic liar has scammed himself the biggest haul he's ever made....yet. The sky's the limit from here on in for him. Thank you, gullibles, you guys really did it this time.

Already I can sense how futile it is to defend Trump's numerous vapid campaign promises, and the more of those he walks back on simply exposes what a humongous blatant liar he is and how.....willfully blind and deaf to his lies and "confessions" of his those folks who voted for him are.

I'm also seeing how all of the lies he's made to get elected are being washed, scrubbed and fragrantly scented in his defense and I have to admit some of the points being made would actually be fairly convincing to a clueless gullible hater, seeing as if they're the type that put Trump in office in the first place.

Don't know if I mentioned this before, but I don't mentioning it again if I did that voting for Trump is a lot like marrying this really sweet talking dude that reveals himself to be a lying, cheating, excessively abusive womanizer the moment after the vows are exchanged.

It's a pity we all have to suffer from this union made in Hell though.

So basically you're saying that people should assume he was a massive liar?

Pretty funny that people thought Clinton was untrustworthy but then voted for a guy they assumed was a liar. It's almost like they never cared about that to begin with.

Conservatives have double standards about lots of stuff, the Donald be perhaps the most glaring example. They believe that the Cheetoh Savior walks on water.

if he followed through on that promise I would have said "What a third-world fascist"

but he didn't. So now it's hahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahha

Luckily for our enjoyment, a whole lot of Trumpists like you are really really fucking pissed Trump is pulling back from what he made a tenet of his campaign - to prosecute HIllary. The amount of butthurt on Twitter and in Breitbart comments sections, among others, is so fucking amusing and satisfying to observe. Ahhhhhh.

...interesting...

..."progressives" can revel in the butthurt of their opponents... but anyone reveling in the butthurt they displayed over Hillary losing is tantamount to "bullying" or full-on "violence".

Are you guys EVER going to learn that double-standards not only don't work, they only make you look even worse?

Lol, you should probably take your own advice😉

This isn't about "losing." There were other candidates on the Republican platter people in center or even Left could abide.

You cannot think you're just some abstract political junkie, True Believer, or even an indifferent or even sociopathic disconnected person and walk away from what a disgusting poor example of a human being you have elected.

You cannot simply walk away from the fact that at least enough times over the last century, the people elected could at least prove that they were reasonably smart, civil, level-headed people. And you cannot walk away from the fact that Trump is so full of himself it he should be vomiting at a Roman "vomitorium."

This has nothing to do with 'politics," your little trout-fly issues, your feeling that "gay union" violates your religion and you should deprive people of that right, your feeling that a diplomatic stalemate in the Middle East is just something you can bulldoze your way through, opening the floodgates to more spending, widening conflict and less to work with back home.

You've been had by a snake-oil shyster with the character traits of Caligula and Commodus rolled into one. The political agenda is purely destructive from the remainder of the electorates various points of view, and the rest of the electorate was a popular majority.

Chances of treasonous actions by Trump must be scientifically and carefully pursued until it is discovered that there's no further avenue, no further evidence, and especially -- no more risk to leave unexamined.

Your country is in peril.

Nice spin. You could just as easily say 5 political prisoners were transferred to a gilded prison in return for an American soldier who was captured when AWOL.

The 5 Taliban are no more dangerous in Qatar than they were in Gitmo.

If you want to go on about ancient history we could talk about Iran-Contra where massive quantities of arms were exchanged for hostages in direct contravention of US law & the funds were used to finance terrorists.

Poor Max- always the victim, even in victory.

I'm pretty confident I've never made that parallel
