A friend bought a 2000xp and tried to swap it out with his 1200 duron. The motherboard would not post with the xp so he put the duron back in. Still no post with the duron in place. He tells me what happened and brings his tower for me to look at. I clear the cmos and still get no post with the duron. I try booting with every combination of ram, video card, etc connected and disconnected still nothing. Out of despiration I pull a duron 800 out of another computer and install it, the computer boots fine. Update the bios, put the 2000xp back in, computer recognizes cpu and boots fine. 😕

WTF happened?

I do not find this to be unusual at all. Some motherboards expecially Biostar that fail to boot with a particular CPU have to have the CMOS cleared before the cpu is installed and again after it is installed before they will even boot the origonal CPU, it is strange but for me not unusual.
