There are a lot of people running around posting stuff on anandtech, neffing up their points, trying to become a lifer, etc., etc.

I think after they reach a few thousand posts or whatever, they realize that their names are completely dumb, so they start neffing all the more to get banned so that they get an excuse to start a new name.

No, that's not what I'm doing. But I have a friend who has brought a related concern to my attention.

So what names have you seen that need drop-kicked out the proverbial window?
 
Mine! I posted here initially thinking it'd just be one post, 'what could it hurt?'. Little did I know it'd turn into a two-pack-a-day habit and I've been regretting my foolish burst of sarcasm over my choice of name ever since. Someday maybe I'll ask the mods for a change.
 
Always stick with clan names 🙂
My nick has served me well from StarCraft to Q2, Q3, CS, you name it, as well as one the boards....

keep it simple, keep it to the point, and make it something that, if called in person, wouldn't make you go "ack, don't call me that".

I'm quite happy with my nick, but I do have a question, what the heck is neffing?
 
i think we should get rid of xirtam for starting a thread to try and get other AT members to single out AT members that they dont like the name of😉
 
i hate my name. i didn't even give it much thought. i wanted to sign up to the forums to ask a few questions in the tech forums. i had just bought a two-way FRS radio. the brand name was "fanon" so that is what i chose. dumb.

if i could change my name it would be "swayinOtis" after that old drunk bastard on the Andy Griffith Show. 🙂

Lol. It's amazing how quickly sharing a conversation can turn into a flame war. Did I mention any names? I don't think so. Now that you mention it, though, how do you feel about the name "minendo"? I'm trying to employ a couseling technique I learned when people get defensive and retalliate in a seemingly irrational manner.

By the way, do all the diamond members get together and vote who to "get rid of"? Who is this "we"? From what I've seen, I've got some honest responses that indicate that what I said wasn't all that irrational. Or is your attack on my person a subtle way to Nef to raise diamond status to lifer? I should probably learn to employ some of those tactics. "Senior" just doesn't sound senior enough when I could be golden or diamond! OOOOH BUDDY!

I have no problems with the name minendo. I have been using it since my junior year of High School. It is my nick on anything I do on the internet.

By the way, if you look back at my initial post I editted it because it didn't quite come out the way I wanted to or expected to. Sorry about that.
 
That's ok. I just figured you'd add that wink on the end to avoid ending a sentence with a preposition. 😉

So, pyonir, that doesn't really answer the question. Does your name suck, but not so much that you're willing to overcome your fear of change, or do you really like it? I mean, it does have a certain quality to it. If you take "pyonir" and assign a numerical value to each letter such that a=1, b=2, c=3... you wind up with 16+25+15+14+9+18=97. 97 happens to be the ASCII value for "a" which is the start of the entire lowercase alphabet! Now, the question is, was that intentional, or am I just a geek?

Well, I chose mine because I've been a avid fan of Punisher comics since issue 1 and if that's dumb to you, well, to each his own. As far as disliking other's screen names goes, I don't find myself thinking of how much I dislike a name but rather of how much I enjoy laughing at the funny ones and/or original and creative ones instead. One that comes to mind at the moment is runswithscissors another is RadioactiveMagpies now to me those are creative and funny but once again, to each his own 🙂
 
Hmm....I like mine out of convenience. I have been using it for years, pretty much anything I sign up for (except for email addresses) I use the username Nutdotnet.

The only thing I don't like about mine is there are quite a few people out there who think that my name has to do with some sexual connotation, and I could see where there are commin from....but that isn't why I chose it. A buddy thought of it a few years back when we all had a wee-bit too much to drink.

BTW- AphexII, how many horses does that Passat have w/ the 1.8t?
