That Volcano 12 is one big mofo

Yeah it is and noisy too even at 4000RPM. Im not impressed with mine, my Aeroflow did a lot better job IMHO. Maybe really cranked up it will be a different story but then my case will probably take off! 😀

at full load and medium fan speed (cant hear it) I get 45C on my 2500 at 3200 at +.05volts. In a fairly warm room.

If I crank it up to full hairdryer speed, it drops to 41C. Pretty impressive. The noise is ridiculous at full speed, Id almost NEVER run it at that unless my AC was dead in my house or something, but even at moderate speed and no noise it seems to be cooling like a champ.

Im surprised my MB doesnt fold in half under the weight when its upright.

Wholy sh*** ... that's one big-a$$ heatsink ...

It's funny, thermaltake just can't manage to make ANYTHING silent ... (for example my volcano 11+ ... sheesh, she's loud on full power ... thank goodness for the cooling in my Sonata, it keeps the volcano running at 2000rpm with processor temp (measured with sensor thermal-taped to bottom of processor) 45* - 48* C

my SLK-900a w. 80mm Tornado is bigger and i run that baby at full speed, gotta love the 74dD's it puts out

keeps my 2400+ @ 2.5GHz at 40C tho

Hopefully they have the fan connected to a rheobus so they can control the sound. Because i wouldn't want that computer in my room at night 🙂

Wow, thought that was my system for a second 😛.
That thing is huge, I'd be afraid to strap it onto my CPU socket.

It looks nice and big but I'd rather use a Sunon medium/high output fan. I heard the three-blade fan TT uses is LOUD! I'm quite content with my TT Silent Boost + Sunon High-Output fan.

i love my volcano 12 i have it at 5800 rpm now blazing away there and man is it a good cooler! (i dont care about noise, lol)

just installed mine last night. it is so big i had to take off the psu to get the volcano on. it cools better than any thing. temps on my xp1800 with fan on min: 28C@1530mhz, 34C@2000mhz, 40C@2200mhz.

when is big too big. dang.

i always wondered how these massive heatsinks might effect the mobo. wouldn't that extra weight be strain on the board?

nope didnt bend my an35n-400 at all. its fine.

I run mine at 5500 RPM and it's VERY loud but does the trick...then again I'm not a pussy and I don't even notice the vaccuum like tower I have anymore

You tell em HIGH..... Man Ive got 3 machines in a 12X14 room and they are loud as hell...... The good thinkg is whenever the old lady calls me I can pretend that I did'nt hear her...............
LOL

Im changing my mind about this big guy. Room temps up to 29c , system at 32C and its still keeping the CPU at 39C. Not too loud at 4200 RPM either! Quieter than my Vantec 6045!

I did the same thing with my Silent Boost, except with a Panaflo H1A.
Look closely at the Silent Boost and the Volcano 12. They look to be the same HS with different fans.
If you ever get sick of the racket, just pop in a quieter fan.
BTW- My Silent Boost isn't nearly as heavy as my SLK-800U...

My Thermalright SLK947U is huge! Add the Panaflo L1M on top of it and it is massive. Ahh.. but keeps my CPU so cool at 35C. 🙂 And with it running at 30dba, it's a hell of a lot quieter than the 92mm Tornado it replaced.

I've got an Extreme Volcano 12+ on an Abit NF7-S v2 board. I read the AMD spec sheet and the recommend a heatsink with a maximum weight of 300g hanging off the Socket A. The volcano 12 is 700g! At first I was scared of the hsf ripping the socket right off the motherboard, but I've had it for a couple months now with no problems. Any had any problems with heavy heatsinks?

The maximum weight on the AMD spec sheet accounts for worst case scenarios like OEMs who ship boxes through UPS and Fedex. Those shippers really beat up on packages, and even with lots of padding it's a rough ride. If you move it yourself gently, there won't be any problems.
