Even a progressive station like Current TV couldn't stomach this greasy haired lefty weasel and fired his ass. The guy is such a jerk, not just politically, but socially that even the "tolerant left" couldn't tolerate him anymore.

http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/03/30/current-tv-dismisses-keith-olbermann/

For nearly a year now, Al Gore and Joel Hyatt have been building their liberal cable news channel, Current TV, with the mercurial television anchorman Keith Olbermann at its center.

This week, the center collapsed.

Current said on Friday afternoon that it had fired Mr. Olbermann — one of the nation’s most prominent progressive speakers — just a year into his five-year, $50 million contract. It was the culmination of months of murky disputes between Mr. Olbermann and the channel that he was supposed to save from the throes of ratings oblivion.

Yet as inevitable as it might have seemed to some in the television business who know the long history of antipathy between Mr. Olbermann and his employers, it was nonetheless shocking to his fans, to his detractors and to staff members at Current when the announcement was made.

Has nothing to do with lefty or righty. OB1 just isn't a very good employee. His next gig? Probably the cartoon channel. That is, if he is willing to wear a funny hat and squeaky nose.

I don't know why the OP has to be quite so firebreathing in his partisanism. By all accounts Olbermann is not a nice guy and people find him difficult to work with. That has nothing to do with his "lefty" politics and everything to do with his temperament. He had the same issue in his pre-political days at ESPN and Fox Sports. http://gawker.com/5897964/whos-more-unprofessional-keith-olbermann-or-his-last-four-employers

Many are obnoxious, but Olbermann combines that with his sanctimonious superior ideology. He's a consummate asshole. Of course that applies to someone like Rush, but we've already had a thousand plus post on him.

It seems that political extremists who live in the spotlight love to show off how awful they are.

Olbermann has always been an ass, going back to his days at ESPN. They were not sad at all about him leaving. His tv shows reflect his personality, he's just a slimy ass about everything. Even when he's right about something he's an ass. I'm not surprised at all that they fired him. One, he's an ass, and two, he got no ratings. Neither of those should be a surprise.

and to clarify - Olberman is no doubt an ass, but he doesn't rely on known fabrications to enforce his points, which to me puts him on a level higher than the Rush's and Hannity's of the world.

He doesn't rely on known fabrications, so he makes up new unknown fabrications?

No, to those who are generally moderate, he is just as bad if not worse than Hannity and Rush, all of them are gasbags full of crap.

I remember a long time ago when he was on Sportscenter, he was always very snarky and abrasive, and in a dry way. Jumping to politics with that persona was doomed to fail.

I don't know why the OP has to be quite so firebreathing in his partisanism.[/url]

Probably the same reason as to whenever Rush or Hannity is spoken of.

I had issues with Olberman since he was on KTLA doing sports back in the 80's. I intensely disliked the bastard back then and everything I've heard about him in the last 25 years just made it worse.

I had a lot of fun listening to Olbermann debunk lie after lie after lie after lie after lie after lie after lie....ad infinitum from FOX and Limbaugh. Hey, I guess that's another reason why the righties hate him so much.:D:p

Influential? Well, he sure influenced the Repubs a lot from the burning effigies of him they hung at Tea Party rallies and such.;)

And the tit-for-tats he had with Limbaugh and O'Reilly made for a lot of fun.....well, except the Repubs didn't think he was funny at all while he was at it.:D

He went from a 3rd rate station to a no rate station and he even gets fired from that. I guess that's the new lefty definition for success.

Speaking of right wing.

Is Limbaugh's show still on air in it's normal time slot?

If so who is advertising/bankrolling him now?

http://www.thedailybeast.com/contributors/howard-kurtz.html
The storm over Rush Limbaugh hasn’t completely abated, but he appears to have weathered the worst.

While Limbaugh’s detractors are still pushing an advertising boycott, he has started speaking of the effort as a failure.

“The opposition has been consistently dishonest in what they say about me,” Limbaugh told The Daily Beast. “So it’s no surprise they would be dishonest in their impact on my business.”

After apologizing for his blunder in calling Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke a “slut” and “prostitute,” Limbaugh is said to be energized by the furor, feeling that his opposition is now seen as wanting to shut him down rather than debate the issues.

Liberal critics quickly mounted an extensive campaign to pressure companies to stop advertising on his radio show. And it’s had an undeniable impact, with more than 140 companies either withdrawing their ads or asking that their spots not be used during Limbaugh’s time slot (although some were not regular Rush advertisers to begin with). Someone familiar with the program’s finances says the percentage drop for revenue flowing to the national program has been in the single digits.

Limbaugh told listeners this week that “our ratings are up anywhere from 10 percent to 60 percent, depending on the station,” and that “the advertisers who hung in here are going gangbusters, yes...The only ones who got hurt are the ones who left. And that’s its own tragedy because they left under false, trumped up, unreal pretenses.” The latest ratings information will not be made public for some time.
