Crazy.

I remember a US aircraft carrier (one of the smaller ones) came to Vancouver a few years back. In order to get it under the bridge into the harbour, they had to wait until low tide.

We don't have any small(er) ones. There's only Enterprise and the Nimitz class ships. They're all HUGE. Although, they're probably dwarfed by the Oasis.

Indeed. Any vessel with >10MW HOTEL demand should be. Aside from the complex political overtones the majority of the (mis) informed public - regarding nuclear power - would be too frightened to sail her! :(

Gonna have to disagree with you on the nuke aspect. These ships are much better off with conventional propulsion. The US Navy's decision to go nuclear is tactical rather than economic. Nuclear is much more efficient in a power plant where it can go 100% power all of the time.

I will say that it is safe. The Navy has never had a nuclear accident.

Amazing vessel, but why in the eye-bleeding hell do people always use those retarded camera effects? Oh wait, was this made by the AV Club at St. Jude?

It could of been one of the LHD ships. They look like Aircraft carriers just smaller.

yup. Also, most ships in a carrier battlegroup don't use piston engines. They have to use turbines to even generate enough electricity to keep up with the carrier.

Anyways. huge ship. I can't even imagine...

Ship I'm employed on:

Hehe, coincidentally, I was onboard a science cruise on the ship pictured above around last christmas time when Rubycon was aboard Ruby Princess. A couple of my friends were onboard the Ruby Princess on their 7-day cruise. I can't find the thread now, but rubycon was posting her location during the same time frame my friends were on that very same ship. At the same time, I was chugging away at extremely slow C-band internets near Antarctica.

BTW!!! Nikon is pronounced NEEEEEEEEEEEEEkon in every single commercial in Asia!! I just got back from Asia last month! rawrr!!!!!!! >:O
