Any time I have ever spoken to anyone in HR about salary or not being paid what I was worth their reply always was "deal with it or quit". That is the only advice I can offer. Good luck.

really why do you care what she makes? unless they took your pay down $2k who gives a shit? this is why you should NEVER talk pay with co-workers.

maybe they are giving her a bonus for 10 years loyality? maybe she needs that pay more? maybe they just thnk she deserves it and yo don't? really 2k is nothing to worry about.

Yeah it seems to me you're underestimating exactly how much experience is valued. My guess is that it was management's plan was to have her higher up on the totem pole from the start, but she does need to get trained in and familiarized with the company. The restructuring is a good opportunity for them to set things the way they had intended and do everything else at the same time. Regardless, you're obviously valued by the company and I think it would be a better decision to stay. In fact, might they construe you leaving now as being rather petty and possibly be less inclined to give an outstanding reference in the future?

at least you didnt train a guy that had less experience than you just to have him made manager over you, higher salary and better vacation package handed to him. that happened to me. he was the owners best friend. when i left they still called me for 3 months to help them out with stuff. three months of me saying no. persistent bastards. the guy eventually got canned due to lack of brain cells.

hahah i have had something like that happen.

the head of IT was fired. i was 2nd in command. i ended up doing the the job for like 6 months. while waiting for who was going to get the job.

Finally the decision came on who was going to get it. it was between me and someone else. i really thought i had it.

i was called into a meeting. Me, VP of tech, his assistant (who rumor was he was having relations with), and head of HR. Come to find out the vp's assistant was getting it (she had just got her degree in IT so ZERO experience). i was pissed off. she left to go "work" and i was asked to stay.

the asked me to help her and train her for the job. i was to get a pay raise and a LOT of new responsibilities (essential i would be doing the job without the title).

at first it was fine. she made a lot of stupid decisions i tried to overturn. finally she made the big one.

She decided to cut back on the budget. she figured we were spending far to much on backups. We were doing daily, weekly and monthly. She decided to cut out the daily and weekly ones. I did my best to talk her out of it but couldn't.

no way was i sticking around for the fallout of that. it took like 6 months before they called me begging me to come back and take over. Ended up a few machines "crashed" and they lost 3 weeks of crap heh.

man i need a new keyboard. this $10 one i got from target sucks.

Just talk to your boss about how you feel ... how come no one can ever just man up and talk about it. The worst anyone can ever do is fuckin say no. Grow up, people get rejected all the time.

Tell your boss the situation and how you see it - they can either sympathize and help you or tell you to fuck off.

but in case you are really lazy (wich you have proven).

"Yes, I've talked to my boss in great detail about it...and it IS strictly based on past HR experience, BUT, I don't think she realized what she did by putting her at a higher rate. I feel like I did something wrong and I feel very unvalued"

the other assistant mgr (that i also trained) got a co-manager position after i left (which pissed the guy off to no end hehe). he worked it for about 4 months before the owners wife caught them in a motel. she was the majority owner and fired them both. teehee. thinking bak on that job, i missed out on a lot off extra stuff, but i think im overall glad i didnt stay longer than the 5 years i was there.

Yah, I read it waggy - quit assuming, you know what it does. He needs her to understand how he feels ... it's not hard. If there wasn't clarification for him or something was lost in translation - perhaps he needs to offer some solutions, like he'll train her with a deadline for her to take over certain responsibilities - and at some point some stress is removed from him since she should have more responsibilities than him. Guess I should clarify.

something you're going to learn especially within the admin field, unfortunately exp > edu.

Yeah...you're right...just took me by complete surprise...I was under the impression (through discussions and all that) that I was on the fast-trak of actually taking over this department.

Now it feels like that was a load of BS...heck...

Yup...new job for me! Thanks man.

How old is the current head of HR, how soon could it even remotley be possible to take over their position? Was the fast track thing really possible?

If you're number #2 in charge (when they are gone you take over etc) stay long enough to get enough experience to be considered as the #1 by a new employer. They won't know the other person makes a $2k more than you. They'll likely see you as the #2 based on your responsibilities.

She's older, likely she's been bitching about making less than someone younger & less experienced (if she knew).

I don't care WHAT she makes...it bothers me that she makes more than I do now vs. before...I made more...signficantly more actually.

This isn't intended to be rude right here...but I'm going to bold something since I may have confused you, and others...

She has 10+ years of HR experience. NOT 10+ years in the organization. She started here @ the Organization in the Accounting dept. in 10/10/05. She moved down to the HR Dept. around May of this year. I started in the HR department and have been here since 06/14/04.

She's early-mid 40s. The "fast-track" is very realistic in terms of moving up...eventually, another 3-4 years from now, if I stuck around, she would probably move in more of a VP operations role (which is really what she wants to do). I wouldn't want to be a VP, just the manager of the HR department. :)

for someone who does not care what she makes it sure is a topic that bothers you.

again what she makes does not matter. there are a LOT of reasons why she may make more.

ok so she has not worked there 10 years. i would also pay someone with 10 years exp more then someoen with 3.

Again Who gives a fuck? best course of action is ignore it and continue on. you already brought it up with manegment and they pretty much told you to bad.

now the issue is you going to let it bother you and quit and take the chance of getting a worse job, ignore it or bitch like a baby?

In all honesty you just got introduced to the real world where things are not fair.

She's got a lot more experience than you and should be your boss.

yeap.

you are takeing something that is none of your business and having a hissy fit over it.

really the fact she makes more then you does not matter.

you went to managment. they told you to bad. now you are acting like a child. wanting to quit and get a diffrent job. good luck on that. its a major gamble.

you have a good job. makeing what i suspect is good pay. seems like you are on the fast track to higher managment.

just because your frigile ego is bruised you are acting childish. keep pestering managment about it and see where that gets you.

actually he is bitching that she went from being a significantly lower paid employee that has worked for their company a lot less time to making more than he, while he maintained the same duties plus some. sure, hes acting a bit butt hurt about it, but i think a lot of people would in that position. she may have 10 years industry experience, but he definitely has the upper hand in that organization. but, his goal should be to make sure his education and personal knowledge of the companys system makes him shine enough to get recognized for his diligence and hard work as well as his future longevity with that company. if he stays complacent, her 10 yr of experience will outshine his schooling/ management up to this point and could place him in a position under the other lady.
