While I'm no American, I'd like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for the US armed forces, that were responsible for leading the English speaking peoples in their united effort to liberate Europe from Nazi rule and helped put an end to Hitler's Germany.

Thanks.

As this day is about those who have fallen:
the families that have sons or daughters that have fallen in the current war, or the wars of past: they are in our hearts. But not just this weekend. For you, every day, as it should be. The waving of the colors themselves, in my eyes, serves as a humble daily tribute to those who have fallen.

"Those who have long enjoyed such privileges as we enjoy, forget in time that men have died to win them."
- Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Even though that quote is in my sig, for those that may not look at sigs, it is a quote that especially has an impact on this day.

and if I may, I would like to pay tribute to my grandfather. While he had not fallen in the line of fire, he served during WWII as a soldier in the OSS (in the US Army), and fought behind enemy lines in many locations throughout the European theater, from the North African battles and into the Middle East, throughout Normandy and elsewhere in France, and quite likely a few places in Germany before the Battle of the Bulge. He missed out on the timeline of the 'Bulge, however, due to dysentery. He passed away March 5th, 2006. 🙁

Thank you to all who served- we owe you more than you can imagine.

I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the Band Of Brothers marathon on the History channel 🙂

US Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines

And don't forget Airmen!

During my very brief stint in the army (I have a bone spur in my left foot, or I would still be there), I met some great people, and I wish them and everyone else in the military all the best. Kick some ass, and come back safe..

No doubt...I have the ultimate respect for the men and women who go out there, and do what I don't have the balls to do. Whether or not we think this or any war is justified or not, it's important to remember that this isn't about politics, it's about real people. It doesn't matter where or how a soldier has fallen, or how many medals they have, or whether or not they were even willing to be there in the first place - they're all my heroes, and I owe my everyday life and comfort to their sacrifice.

War isn't just the backdrop for video games - and this shouldn't be the only day of the year that we recognize that.

I'm Canadian, but I also would like to send my thanks to the US troops that work to keep the world a safer (and democratic) place.

I'm glad at least some people get Memorial Day

I was sitting there at my town's memorial day service, and the disrespect pissed me off. All of the other people around me with the exception of my best friend and girlfriend were all having a nice chat about everything that wasn't related to Memorial day. I was so angry.

The thing that made me more angry, is when a group of them started laughing, as a speaker was telling a story about a little girl who wrote a letter to her father after he had been killed in Iraq. That set me off. I walked away, I couldn't take it.

Thank you everyone who served

Thanks to my two grandfathers; Hervin and Howard. Grandpa Hervin passed 8 years ago, Papa Howard is still alive.

We had a small gathering of the family to honor them.

Thanks to all of you for serving our country.
