Despite many summer spent in wooded regions, I've never once had to pull a tick off of me until this year. Went out to the woods for a backpacking overnight and noticed one on the back of my knee that night. Maybe it's the region I'm in now.

i work out in the minnesota lakes area during the summer months so i end up picking 5-6 off me every night. (usually)

from what i've experienced, make sure to check the 'warm' parts of your body, ie: your junk, armpits, back of the knee, feet, around the ears/head.

usually they just suck on and chow down on blood.. if you don't catch one though withint 24hrs, they attach themselves pretty hard, and are a pain to get off. although i've never had one actually burrow into my skin.

hope that helps =)

Pick your tick

My son had one on him. Tried to burn it off(light the match, blow it out, touch the tick), no good. Tried to pull it off. It broke. Had to take him to the hospital and get the head cut out. Left about a 1/2 inch hole in width and a little deep.

I've had so many ticks I couldn't count them when I was in the military and also living in the country in FL. My dog and cats used to get them all the time too. I would simply pull them off. Cats and dogs get them around their collars, nose, and behind their ears mostly.

Most of the time I've had ticks have been around shoes, socks, underwear band, armpits, and especially the nether regions. Check closely. It helps to have someone check for you as well. Not the most pleasant thing in the world, but we had to do regular tick checks on each other whenever we came out of the field in the Army.
