The wife and I share an older Verizon 8 gigabyte data plan. Lately we have been going over, and it's $15 per gigabyte. I received a bonus offer on my Verizon app this morning of 999 gigs a month for $10 a month as long as we have the plan. I was considering unlimited data plans before, which would have been $20 a line or $40 a month more on out bill, with lower quality streaming video resolution. So basically 999 gigs is unlimited for $30 a month less.

I had to Google it and call them of course, but it is a legit promotion. I'm happy, it's not often I actually come out on the good end of a contract like that lol.

that's nuts. we finally caved on giving up an 8 gb plan for unlimited last year. why the heck would they do this when they are pushing the unlimited stuff?
 
We have a shared 10 gb legacy plan. Finally logged into the account. Also offered the 999 gb/mo for $10/month.

What is your total cost per line?

I have their unlimited everything plan, and with discounts for draft payment and being a veteran I pay $35/line (have 5 total), daughter, grandsons, plus us.
 
I'd have to look at my bill. We both have monthly cell phone payments included in the bill. We had to, to receive the rebates on the phones we have.

That's why I've stayed with Fi. I mainly use WiFi and cost for a single line (or even a 2-line plan) is pretty outrageous.

For just the two of us, the cost would be (IIRC) $70 per line every month. Currently, we pay $30 for the data plan, $20 for each phone, total $70/month.

Just sell one of your wife's Hérmes scarf and you can afford it too.

I am still on my 25 dollar 3G unlimited plan. I am not switching lol.
 
Just switched to Verizon yesterday. It is pricey, but I do get Disney plus and Hulu plus included. I'm hoping my family switches over as well, I have to go to their house and see how the service is, as it's in a low signal area.

Had to leave AT&T though as they fund OAN, and that's a big sin. I preferred T Mobile for the price, but if you hike around here, T Mobile is the worst by far and Verizon is the best.

Having peace of mind that I can make an emergency call the times I'm out in the woods is worth the price of admission.

So true, I have Verizon because it was the only carrier that worked for me for a while, but now I have myself, my wife, my mom and MIL on my plan and it's up to over 300/month. Might be time to find something else.

Take a look @ Ting... I switched a few months ago and it cut my average bill to under $15 per month from $30-$35 with Fi.

Mobile data is SLIGHTLY slower sometimes usually inside stores and the coverage is also a bit less extensive (it's essentially T-Mobile) but can't beat the price @ $10 for calls/text + $5 per gb 5g data. Really the only negative I've run into involves needing to leave mobile-data switched on to send SMS when on wifi for some reason which hit's battery life a bit.

No question Verizon still has the best coverage in the US overall although AT&T is losing/has lost it's grip on #2.

In fact if you live in a weak-signal area you might be better off going with Google Fi (which uses mainly T-Mobile) since they support multiple phone service switching in software plus supplemented with wifi.

In your situation I don't think Ting would be a good choice.

Another reason I didn't state is that my phone and plan are very easy to use internationally. Obviously, the last year and a half have cut almost all my travel for work, but before covid, I was probably going overseas at least once or twice a year.

Technically Ting works internationally but I wouldn't count on it.

Google Fi OTOH works very well from what I've read in reviews. The only place I ever used it outside the US personally was in Cancun but the service was identical to at my desk 99% of the time. (also no "surprise" charges!)

We are rural, and Verizon continues to be the only carrier that we can actually use and check our voicemail on in our area. The wife is a vet that does house calls and needs to be able to answer her phone on call, so it's worth the extra $50 a month. We are not poor either, that won't break us lol
 
I tried doing as much research as possible about best signal when hiking in the NJ/NY/PA areas. While the newest posts I found were from like 2019, there was a clear cut winner, Verizon. At&t was second, but that was pre merger of t mobile and Sprint. But they got panned in general.

I don't hike a lot, but when I'm out there, I want service.
 
I can beat your legacy with my T-Mobile 2GB plan that I've had forever. And that's shared 2GB. And we still haven't gone over it.
 
Pretty nice offer... not sure I'd take it since it is $10/line in my case since we have 5 lines, but I would definitely consider it.

I'm on Verizon (since 1991)

35/month each, plus the taxes, FCC fees, etc. which brings it up to 183/month for 5 lines. Unlimited everything...

Discount for being a veteran.
Discount for auto-pay draft payments. $5 per line.

You might want to explore discounts you may be eligible for.

T-Mobile has been offering good deals over the years. We now have a total of 7 lines for a total of $153/mo. if all 4 kickbacks are in effect (use less than 2GB, get $10 back).

Over the years, we've been able to add 4 lines at $10 each.
