I have Cox@Home in Phoenix and I can't get my D-link router to work.
This is my router D-Link Specs
I can't get it to configure correctly. I have tried it with the Cox software installed and with it un-installed.

If anyone knows the best way to figure this out, assuming that it is possible, plese help.

The D-Link site is of little help, I might have to call tomorow morning.

Thanks for the advice.

Figured it out through tech support.

Ok

I am going to assume you read the manual.

Do you know anything about networking? There is a good guide on anandtech about networking that you might want to read.

Anandtech Guide to Networking

As for what you need to do step-by-step, there is a lot to type and I don't know what problem in specific you are having. Why don't you elaborate more on your situation and what isn't working.

I live in phoenix has well and use COX@home

Few questions

1. Does you machine grab and sort of IP info from the router?
2. Does you router grab any ip info from the cable modem?
3. Do You have any ip info hardcode in the network settings for tcp/ip?
4. are you sure you hooked it up right? I think you don't need a crossover cable to connect the router to the cable modem. Try a different cable to be sure.

Thanks Adul,
I guess that we can network the internet connection with one adress. Did you use the "easy configure software" from @ home. The thing about the manual for d-link is it is not o/s specific. It also gives these "generic" adresses and masks, as well as showing a website to log onto. I am somewhat familiar with the networking connections, but I have never heard of a "crossover" cable. I used the cable that came with router.
1. Does you machine grab and sort of IP info from the router?
How would my machine grab adresses from the router, (automatic?)

2. Does you router grab any ip info from the cable modem?
When installing the modem using the router option it does not see any adresses, then it goes through the tet mode and it can't even see the modem, I think, because it can't get the test light to come on.

3. Do You have any ip info hardcode in the network settings for tcp/ip?
I know all of my adresses and settings from the writeup they give you when they install. I know, for example, netmask, gateway, and ip adress.

4. are you sure you hooked it up right? I think you don't need a crossover cable to connect the router to the cable modem. Try a different cable to be sure.
I have been using the cables that came with the router and the modem.

Thank you for the response, fellow Phoenician.
How about those D'backs.

I don't live in Phoenix, and I don't use Cox@Home, but I do their tech support, so... 🙂

Do you have the computer name (CX#######-?) entered properly? Usually that's the only router config you need. Make sure you have the router setup to use DHCP on the cable side.

Make sure you have your PC(s) setup to use DHCP as well (In TCP/IP settings in Windows, it's "Obtain an IP address automatically"), as well as no gateway, and DNS disabled.

Thanks everyone.
I just got off the phone with D-link and the fihured it out.
The problem was not my settings, I had to do to their config site to configure.
Thanks everyone for the help!🙂
