I brought home a 2000 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro 5-speed manual with sun roof, cd player, xenon lights, and leather interior with 47k miles on it.
I paid $14,500 for it. Do you think I paid too much, just about right, or got a good deal? The owner had one accident with it ... got rear ended and it's been fixed to look brand new.

Ummm, ask RossMAN his opinion of salvage titles.

Me personally, I wouldnt touch one with a 10 foot pole, but thats me.

Nothing wrong with a salvage title, all my family does is buy smashed cars and fix them up.. all you have to be careful about is the quality of work done. Get it done or checked out by a good mechanic and there's no problesm at all.. probably even better than new =)
(paint, fitments, etc...)

foolish not to have it done yourself.

Agreed. You really don't know what you have, because you didn't get it checked out. Do you have any idea of how much it was damaged?

I wouldnt say its too bad if you plan on keeping the car for a long while. Salvage titles do NOT like resale, so if your beliefs are anything like my family's, running it into the ground after 200k+ miles dosent really matter much.

Salvage titles are an iffy proposition.

It's an Audi though. The only good Audi's are the one's under warranty; otherwise, pray for mechanical soundness.

After my experience with a salvage titled car I'm inclined to agree esp considering this is $14,500.00

If it were a car which cost $5,000 or less and you never intended to resell it (AKA: Drive it into the ground) then I would consider it.

Do you know exactly why it was salvaged? Sometimes you don't get the whole story from the anxious seller.

Although you got a great deal, I wouldn't touch it with a 10000 foot pole, stay far far away from it.

Maybe a stupid question, but what is a salvage titile?😱

I have not dealth with buying a used car before, and I am unsure what you guys mean.

A salvage title is issued on cars that were in a bad car crash and usually bought out by an insurance, resold to a re-builder and then fixed for resale.

You trusted the person selling it to you?

Not a smart thing to do, if you're spending that kind of coin, pay an INDEPENDANT mechanic/shop to go over the ENTIRE vehicle.

Ah thank you 🙂

I'd be hesitant with a salvage title. I don't think you got a killer deal because of that - it nails resale to the ground. However, if you're going to drive it into the ground you may be happy with this car for years to come. Just be wary that selling it will be darn hard.

For a car of that price I'd have wanted an Audi mechanic to spend an hour looking at it. You'd pay maybe $80 tops for that. Too late now I suppose...but Audis are nice.

did you get 10% off and then 200 off over 14000 coupon from the HD forums?

good buy! =). Audi TT is a cool car.

It is, but he bought an Audi A4, not a TT 😀

my presonal experience with salvage title has been nothing but hardship. As mentioned here many times before, if you plan on driving it to the ground I'll say it is a fair buy. but driving a salvaged car over 200K is a little hard to imagine especially a Audi..... you do realized that Audi Parts aren't cheap right? Also the regular services at dealers are expensive as hell. Nonetheless, it is a great lookin car plus the handlin isnt too shabby. 🙂 Enjoy your new car and take good care of it.

Ranger X - Before this thread gets locked per your request. I just hope that you don't have any high hopes of ever selling this car again. If you take good care of it, it should easily give you another 10 years but if you EVER plan on selling it - be prepared to be disappointed.

A salvaged car title is the mark of death.
