Is nforce2's dual channel memory auto?

When i boot, it only says single channel and I couldn't find the settings in bios... I put my ram in the 2 slots that are close together.

I have 2x 256mb OCZ PC3000. Both look the same with red PCB but they might be different revisions... everything that I can see are the same about them without removing the heatspreader... anything else to try before i void my warranty by removing the heatspreader to check if the chips on them are really matched?

Thanks

Leave the center slot empty. The nForce2-ST and Ultra 400 have two memory controllers, and if you put modules on both of them, it has no option but to run dual-channel. The ones that are close together are both attached to one of the memory controllers, and the loner is on the other memory controller.

Test combinations though. Some people get different performance depending on which slot on the first channel they use. So try it with slots 1 and 3, and slots 2 and 3. As mechBgon said, slots 1 and 2 are connected to a single channel.
