I had an interview with a company today and not sure exactly how the thank you note should be.

Should it be something simple and sweet like:

Dear person,

Thank you for the interview with company name earlier day. I'm looking forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks,
txrandom

"subj: Thank you for the interview

Thank you for taking the time to discuss the participation's analyst position with me on Monday. I realize your time is very valuable, and I am grateful for the opportunity.

After learning more about the company and the position, I believe that I would be a great fit to your team. From our discussion, I feel that my experience in analyzing both contracts and business processes, as well as my auditing experience, would leave me well positioned for a position on your team as an analyst.

If there is anything you need clarification on, or any other questions you'd like to ask, please feel free to email me here or call me at xxxxxxxx

Thank you,
"

I have never done this. Gotten 2/3 jobs I've interviewed for that I actually wanted.

That being said, I know this is a good idea as it places your name freshly in their minds.

I got the job, so I disagree.

it also follows most guides on the internet as well as what I learned in college. srsly, if an extra 2 sentences is a deal breaker, you probably weren't going to get the job anyway.

The original wasn't bad at all. This is what I probably would say instead though.

QFT This is the "Thank you for the interview" template.

1. Acknowledge their valuable time spent with you
2. Acknowledge your value and how your soft skills will help you fit in
3. Acknowledge your value and how your technical skills will be of value to the company.
4. Give contact information in case they need documents, etc.

Thank everyone who interviewed you. Hopefully you acquired their email addresses during each interview.

I probably wouldn't have written up a follow up thank you, but the career center told us we should. Supposedly some companies said our college never sent out thank yous and were pissed off. Probably all the dumb companies that care way too much about the corporate bs (ie companies recruiting business majors)

Do a Google search for interview thank you letters and follow the examples you like.

I got my application in, introduced myself and wrote the Thank You letter. Nothing happened, so after a few months I called, it was December. They got so busy balancing the books at the end of the year, they forgot about creating the teaching position. So, no job was actually there. That was weird.

hehe no problem. glad you have a good sense of humor and took my reply as it was intended. i almost left the last part off thinking you might take it personally. i stole that line from 40 year old virgin. i love using it whenever i have the chance. :)

Sorry for bumping this but do i need to write a thank you if the interviewer told me he would recommend me for employment?
Wouldn't it seem a bit desperate?

Do not write a thank you note. Write a follow-up to the conversation you had. They must have asked you questions you were not fully prepared for and needed more thought. There is probably something you wish that you had told them. Maybe you had one of those facepalm moments as you were leaving where you thought, "Damn! Why did I say this ... I should have said this ... instead."

This. I took a professional writing course in college and the thank you note to everyone involved in the interview process is very professional and will increase your "clout." You want to elaborate on one thing you may have forgotten or not stressed enough and then explain in a single sentence your biggest reason they should hire you. Thank them, tell them you're looking forward to hearing from them again, and close reiterating how excited you are for the opportunity.

do you personalize the letter for each person or do you just send everyone the same letter?

similar format - obviously the content will depend on the interview
