yes, thank you morons who open viruses in your hotmail, yahoo, and gmail accounts. now IT has banned those sites so I can't check personal email accounts from work.

damn these people are dumb. someone fell for the Citibank phishing deal a couple months back.

How can they block all webmail?

What if you have a web hosting account using NeoMail, Horde or Squirrelmail?

Uh... there's always a way around it. Did they disallow the .com? Can you check the canadian version of the site? If there isn't one, try lots of other dot-somethings to see if they've got international versions out there. Can you browse by IP? These solutions are the typical n00b solutions. If those don't work, we'll talk about getting your hands dirty

I like the way you think :) I'll check those options out tomorrow.

they send a small electric current through the keyboard if you try to access one of the websites in question.

the web hosting account would work I'm sure, but I'm far too cheap for that.

It all depends on how they're blocking it. If they blocked it in depth, they'll block the IP addresses at the firewall and/or router(s), then use a proxy of some kind to block it there too and maybe even do some application filtering to pick up the rest of it. I doubt they did all that, so that means there's a way around it.

you guys are so lucky... my workplace bans all internet access... only intranet... i've spent so many hours browsing the company website and their press releases :\

i asked my manager why they do this and he said it's becaue it gives the company no extra benefit and would only cause workers to waste their time when they could be doing soemthing for the company. i think he's right but i think that sucks!:brokenheart:

All they have to do is to make the necessary changes in DNS.

I agree; you're correct.

That's why it really helps to be a SysAdmin w/access to a DMZ subnet. :D

Nope. These days, with Netnanny, Bluecoat, etc, most proxy sites are already blocked. If the IA folks are doing their jobs, they refresh the blocked DNS list at least weekly. It's rough trying to circumvent things these days. I know. ;)

You pay for the domain ($10 a year) and I'll host you for free.

Change your Remote Desktop listening port to 80 or 21 (HTTP and telnet, respectively). the IT folk cannot block these ports without making their internet connection 99% useless. you have a free path to connect to your home computer, where you can use your stinkin' web-based email :p
