I know he drinks but is not vocal about what he drinks - what's a drink common among traditional punjabi/sikh people? I hope this doesn't come off as racist, just no idea where to start.

Lassi, not an intoxicating drink but something I'm sure even you will enjoy if done right.
You'll need some good quality spices though, rest assured it's something every Indian enjoys especially Punjabis but this is assuming you're comfortable making one at home.

I second that. These kinds of moments don't come often in life.

I am Indian, but don't know what type of alcohol to recommend. My Sikh friends back in college would drink anything, but we were broke-ass college students.
