Thank you Geography 100 for ruining my college career

I just got a 2.5 in this crappy class.
It was the worst class I've ever taken. 3 days of boring lectures per week, and then two days of section in which half of the time we don't have class.
The TA and the professor didn't care about anything.

Take it over again - most colleges have a forgiveness policy where the failed grade will get dropped 😛

Anyway, I like geography and geology classes 😀

Dude, seriously, if you can't handle Geography 100, you might want to look over your study habits.
if you read his post is says his teach was didn't care, and im guessing it means he had a bad prof.

2.5 = GPA so thats like still passing i think, theres always summer school. Whats going so wrong?

i got 3.6 in accounting and 3.8 in linguistic class, and then this 2.5 fvcked me over.
You have no idea how horrible the class is.
I got a 3.2 and a 2.9 on my first two paper, 15% each.
I've done all my homework and attended all the section, participation was 15%, I assume i got a 3.0.
In order to get a 2.5, I had to get a 2.0 on my third paper (15%), a 1.0 on my revision of the two old paper (10%), and a 2.5 on my final exam (30%)

Somehow I don't think I did that worse, but now I don't know where to go complain.

Suck it up, take the class over, and do the grade forgiveness thing (if you screwed up a class once, they might let you retake the class and replace the old grade with the retake). Unless of course your parents are gonna kill you...then I'd say make funeral arrangements.

Okay, I just got an email reply back, i got a 1.4 on my final exam.
"as I recall you did very well on the first test question, but not so well on the 2nd and 3rd."
"your grade is around the average for the entire geog 100 class as a whole"

I think the professor is a nutcase.
I really doubt my final exam is that bad, I can get the final exam and scan them up to prove I am not that stupid.

You're going to see a lot of uncaring profs in your college career, why should that mean you fail the course? College is all about learning inspite of the prof.

How does the circuit of capital work, give an example.

What geopolitic theories are in place of the current US administration.

third question gives out a map showing the % of people speaking their mother tounge in the world.
Question asks how does postmodernism and postcolonism affected the map.

It's a 100 level course, I thought if you write something down you get at least a 2.0.

Also, uw asks professors to curve the class average to 3.0.
If I am in the class average and get a 2.5, that 2.5 should actually be a 3.0.

I am trying to put up good grades to get into business administration major, and this is not helping.
I got 3.6 in financial accounting and 3.8 in linguistic thought.

See, you learned at least one new thing in this class. Some professors won't give you even a 2.0 for a space-filling non-answer.

Some 100-level courses are "weed-out" courses to convince people who hate the subject not to come back and waste the department's time by taking more courses.

It sounds like you made the mistake of taking a class you didn't care about in hopes of getting an easy B. Aside from re-taking the class if you can, you might want to consider not picking any more classes in subjects you don't care for because they "look easy" -- pick classes you have at least a little enthusiasm for.

and if you cant find a class to take that you like, take one of those required classes, and FIND something in the class that interests you. I'm sure there is something that one can find in any class. I've had to do it, and you don't see me failing classes.

The course is optioned for writing credit.
I got 3.2, 2.9, 3.2 respectively on my three papers and my revision grade was 3.4.
I got my ass handed on the final exam which is 30% of my grade. A 1.4 that is worth 30% erased what I put out for the three papers and my perfect attendance for the class.
Previously I've taken a 200 level geography class that focuses on economic geography. Enjoyed the class and got a 3.6 out of it.
So I was hoping to get more understanding by going back to take the geog 100.
Little did I know, I got a horrible professor that's trapped in his own ideology.
Also, I did not give space-filling non-answer. Like I said, I can get my exam back next quarter and post them up and let you decide if it's 1.4 worthy.
If I would have known his final exam grading is this insane, I would have just taken s/ns for the class and focus on my accounting class.

So you blame your teachers for not studying? I've had tons of bad teachers and always had to learn on my own. That's just part of life. No one will hold your hand through everything.

Stop it. I'm serious. Just freaking stop it. This attitude is what gives professors who are paid $50k/year on the low end the excuse to do the most halfassed job imaginable.

Professors are PAID to TEACH. After I paid $8000/year (and I went to an inexpensive state schoo!), I expect those pompous windbags standing in front of the classroom to actually posess the interpersonal skills to help me learn the subject.

When you pay your tuition, you are paying for a service. When that service is not provided, everyone just says "Well, learn it on your own."

If you bought a new car and the engine didn't run sometimes, would you be satsified if people just said "Suck it up! It's a part of life - sometimes you're just going to have to get out and push it yourself" ?

No way. You would be at the dealer demanding to get what you paid for.

Why should school be any different?

Maybe UncleWei didn't study, but I had expereiences where I did study. I studied my ass off. I only got 2 Fs in my life and they both came from the same useless bag of flesh professor.
