Just wanted to say thank you for suggesting I get a French Press as a gift for Christmas. I just brewed my first cup and it was literally the best cup of coffee I have ever had. Thank you for your suggestion!

You'll get far listening to ATOT. I hear Olds almost got out of his basement once...

Next step: a burr grinder. Coarse grounds are better for a french press and the smell of freshly ground coffee adds to the experience. :)

are french presses harder to use than a standard grinder/coffee pot?

This sounds like a nice Christmas gift for myself.

lil help?

Give me a quick walkthrough of how to make a pot of coffee using a french press?

grind beans
put in french press
put in hot water
let seep for a few minutes (not sure how many off the top of my head, I don't actually use one)
plunge (aka the actual pressing part of the french press)
enjoy

Basicly this. Though you do have to measure out water and beans unlike a drip pot.

I thought a French Press is when you squish your tongue down on the grounds before brewing?

I'm interested in this as well. Any press recommendations? Also what kind of grinder should i get.
I typically drink Illy coffee that's finely ground. I use my senseo with a coffee ground filter.

I've got a Bodum 4-cup press that works really well when I don't feel like being lazy and using a standard Mr.Coffee drip pot. I broke the beaker the first year I had it - I think I cracked it when I stuck it in a drying rack.

I really just need a new grinder. This grinder worked well at first, but the build up of residue inside the grinding area and the impossibility of cleaning it out make me want to replace it.

I love the smells and aromas of coffee, but man I hate the taste! I wish I could enjoy it. I guess in the long run it's healthier that I don't.

Wow. Lot of money for that. Although I notice that burr grinders are expensive. Bah.
I can get a lot of cups of joes for that price but it does look elegant and cool.

700+ cups of coffee later I think it paid for itself =P
