The ultra has one significant advantage over the GT:

It has two power connectors.

Since overclocking requires juice, you will need more power. If I remember correctly, power connectors can only draw so much energy, so if something needs more oomph, you need more power connectors.

That's why I think that OCed GTs crash in Doom III. You're playing a graphically intense game with an OCed card, and if it's too taxing, OCed products tend to be more unstable than others.

IE, why so many people recommend running Prime 95 torture tests to test stability of OCed systems and the like.

is that why my GT is at 427/1.18 and runs doom3 perfectly? ok, thats what i thought.

btw, rig looks good. i could have shaved off $200 easy with no performance hit

I bought the BFG Ultra OC. Waste of money? Not to me. Factory OC'd and lifetime warranty.

Pigeonkicker, no worries about the 6800 Ultra. Enjoy it, my man.

Congrats on your new rig. 🙂 The folks around here are generally very helpful and patient. I'm glad we could be of assistance. Make sure you pass along your knowledge now. 🙂
