That's almost hard to believe, atleast it would be if it were almost anyone else...including leno.

I wouldn't have expected it either but I read it on the other Conan thead where someone quoted the wsj article. But we all knew Conan was more or less a good guy on camera and off.

I'm sure once Conan lands the Fox gig that we all know is coming, he will bring back his current staff for that show.

I believe he's also paying them extra out of pocket in addition to the 12. Good man. Leno wouldn't have done this.

Pure conjecture and complete horseshit. I guess Leno fighting to keep his straff across TWO moves means nothing? And that he's essentially had the same staff since the early 90s means nothing?

Troll troll troll your boat.

if that's true, my respect for Conan went up ten-fold

Stolen from NSF4 on the other conan thread:

Conan O'Brien Seals Deal to Exit NBC

After days of tense negotiations, "The Tonight Show" host Conan O'Brien signed an agreement early Thursday to part ways with NBC, according to a person familiar with the situation.

The deal clears the way for rival Jay Leno to reclaim his old show at 11:35 pm. Mr. O'Brien signed the agreement around 1 a.m. Pacific time.

NBC is expected to announce the agreement later on Thursday morning.

While details on the final agreement were unclear, the deal was expected to include a payout of about $32 million for Mr. O'Brien and about $12 million for his staff. It is also believed to include a nondisparagement clause, both for the 46-year-old comedian and NBC. The deal has been said to include a provision that would bar or limit Mr. OBrien from appearing on other shows or hosting his own show for a period of time, according to people familiar with the negotiations.

"In the end, Conan was appreciative of the steps NBC made to take care of his staff and crew, and decided to supplement the severance they were getting out of his own pocket," said Gavin Polone, Mr. O'Brien's manager. "Now he just wants to get back on the air as quickly as possible."

Mr. O'Brien walks away from "The Tonight Show" after almost eight months on air. His exit comes after NBC hatched a plan to shift Mr. O'Brien's show back by 30 minutes to make way for Mr. Leno, whose run in primetime has been marred by muted ratings. Mr. O'Brien argued that "The Tonight Show" wasn't "The Tonight Show" at 12:05 am and refused to move. NBC has been under pressure from local television stations who complained that ratings for Mr. Leno's show at 10 p.m. were poor and damaging the lead-in to their local news broadcasts at 11 p.m.

Mr. O'Brien has privately also blamed the weak lead-in for his own soft ratings, but NBC executives had said Mr. O'Brien shared the blame.

Mr. O'Brien took the reins of "The Tonight Show" last June after a 17-year run by Mr. Leno. NBC had promised Mr. O'Brien the show five years earlier, as an incentive to sign a new contract with the network.

So the real winner here is Conan. Get paid lots for doing nothing. That's the American dream baby.

More like, get paid for doing terrible. In less than a year he's run the franchise into the ground, blamed everyone but himself, spent the last two weeks trashing NBC and now thinks he deserves $45 mil.

Earth to Conan - there are a LOT of funny people willing to host these shows for a LOT less coin. I can't believe NBC caved to this quack. NBC really is run by idiots it seems.

How many people are on his staff?

According to MSNBC it is around 200. So $12,000,000 / 200 = $60,000 average. Of course there are those high up in the food chain and those much lower who would probably get paid accordingly. 12 million divided up for all those employees is a spec compared to what Conan is receiving.

In the year 2000...

Nbc will buyout a CSI franchise giving Leno and the news a good lead in and then continue to blame Conan for all of their problems.

How long did Leno suck in ratings on NBC when he took over in '92? 18 Months.

How long did NBC give Conan? 7 months.

Why the hell do you think Conan was doing bad recently? Jay Leno's awful ratings mean low ratings for the TV affiliates during the 11 o'clock news meaning a dropped off audience for Conan. DUH!!!

This is no different than the rampant problems in corporate America. Make a bonehead move, lose your company tons of money, then walk away with a fat paycheck. Kudos to Conan. I'd just retire at this point if I were him. It wouldn't be hard to live a fine life off of $30 mil.

Speaking of conjecture and pure horseshit. :hmm:

Have you watched the shows the last two weeks? Apparently not. If you had it's plain to see how unprofessional Conan has acted onair the last two weeks. He didn't just burn his bridge, he nuked it and I won't be surprised when other networks don't pick him up. He's a lose cannon, high risk, can't get the ratings (he's PROVEN this) thinks he is uncorrectable (he's PROVEN this) and most of the people watching late night TV don't think he's funny (pesky ratings again).

Have you seen what kind of douchebag Leno is off the air? Apparently not...

Care to sit next to me on my troll boat?

Uhhh, Conan was on a FULL THREE MONTHS before Leno's new show aired.

So, using your logic the only reason Conan had decent ratings at Late Night was because he was following Leno who was #1! You've just proven he can't be successful on his own using your own logic, Ace.

Awesome, ignored facts, redirected with more conjecture. Hah.

sure... ok

I'm not gonna argue with you about what's what because the fact is, neither of us know shit about either of them. I'll admit my part is conjecture but to think that what you say has more weight than anyone on this board makes you more of a troll than I am.

Just like people watching prime time tv don't think Leno is funny?

Adding Jay's show before the local news decimated the lead in audience. The affiliates told NBC this was a bad idea beforehand but the few that stood up to them were threatened by NBC that they would loose their affiliation. As a result affiliate news programs fell to last place in the local markets and they began hemorrhaging ad revenue.

Jay's ratings were low, Conan wasn't keeping up with Letterman, and the affiliates were loosing their asses. NBC should never have promised Conan the Tonight Show in order to keep him and then they compounded their fuckup by trying to keep Leno in the family at the expense of everything else.
