Thank God for concrete highway barriers...

I just got home from the Michigan State hockey game, drove I94 from Ann Arbor over to Detroit. Left Ann Arbor, and the roads are SLICK. It was raining and 50 degrees all day, then it got COLD, it dropped to 27 degrees, and snow. About a mile in on I94, we are all going like 25, I'm in the far left lane watching my mirrors for idiots, and in the oncoming traffic, here comes a Chevy Trailblazer, new year model. He swings to his left, then heads straight at me, plowing into the concrete barrier right beside me, not 10 feet away. I about crapped my drawers. He looked to be going about 35 mph.

I couldn't stop, there was a huge semi right behind me. Hope he's ok.

Then 3 miles later, I come up on a small pickup truck in the right lane, he was going like 20, I was still going 25. I pass him on the left, look back to see if I can get back over, and he is doing doughnuts in the middle of the road. He spun around twice and ended up sideways across both lanes. The semi truck right behind him swerved onto the shoulder and missed him by mere feet.

Then there were about 15 cars and trucks in the ditch on the rest of the way, the westbound lanes had 3 semis jacknifed about halfway home.

The funny part, is you see all this havoc, and then there are still idiots cruisin along right on your ass, come flying up behind you then change lanes at the last minute, or just flying along in the fast lane going 50+ mph. The tailgating is the stupidest thing... I hang back like 50 yards from the car ahead, so I can steer around him if he does anything stupid. COUNTLESS people cruisin along 1 car length behind the guy in front... Idiots.

Do yourself a favor and stay out of the left lane in bad conditions. In most states the law is keep right except to pass anyhow. It's one thing when it's clear or just rain, can hit the left lane and do 10 over and pass people without worries. In bad conditions though seems a lot of people think their vehicle is impervious to conditions and they can drive like it's dry. When it's like that I stay out of the left lane. Don't need my car flattened by some fool in a 6billion ton excursion who thinks it handles like a car.

P.S. I don't care what people drive, telling a person they can't drive a suv is a waste of time. Just wish people who drove them would drive them more carefully and realize that it's not a nimble sports car but a big truck that doesn't respond like a car.

well, if you get hit head-on by en excursion you should be fine as they have an internal framwork designed to catch other cars in the case of an accident.

seriously though, you are lucky dude. hope you have better luck next time you are out in nasty weather

That's a lot of accidents...... as far as tail gating goes, Austin is pathetic about it. I like to screw around with them every now and then with an 18 wheeler on the middle lane, me left lane and block the dork in.

You know what I found is the easiest? Just get out of their way. You're gonna end up pissing off the wrong person if you do that.

I am always a carefull driver, but in bad weather, if I HAVE to be out in it I always drop my speed, last winter there was this suddn snowstorm and I was out with my g/f about 30 minutes away from home, so I take her home, and she's like "its getting bad out there quick just stay over, call in sick in the morning" but I decided to head home anyway, my god, I have never seen so many people tailgating in my LIFE, I was going faster than I should have been and I still had some schmuck on my tail, and four cars turned on and all but one of them tailgated....wth is wrong with people?
