Thai rescuers locate 12 missing boys and coach alive in flooded cave

supposedly it's actually 6 so far and they started with the weakest boys first, so that is good news and impressive

the problem is that a rescue scenario doesn't just risk the lives of those trapped, it risks the lives of the divers too

if they have another couple divers die without getting anyone out and a corpse gets trapped in a narrow passageway and blocks further contact, well, at some point you're just throwing good lives after bad

plus think of all the money that gets spent on a situation like this. who's going to be liable for that?

Hes a squidgy meat sack though. Anything rigid his size isnt going to fit, plus any sub is going to be considerably (in this context of inches mattering) larger.

Musk was talking about using a double layer of kevlar over the same flexible material they use to pump LOX through. No reason that I can think of that it wouldn't have worked beside the time constraints of getting them built and tested and when he made the suggestion they were still talking about potentially waiting the monsoon season out.

So like a really bulky drysuit then?

I guess, I'm not really familiar with a drysuit but something you could encase the kids in, give them a decent sedative to calm them, and then pull them out without them having to do any actual "diving" stuff. He gave a short description in one of his tweets, if I have time to find it I will post it but I think the biggest confusion is people calling it a "sub". It is nothing like a sub and would be just as, or at least very close, to as flexible as a person.

I've seen 4 and 6. There were also reports that they took out the healthiest ones first. So I think there's a lot of bad info going around. Maybe 2 drowned and they are covering it up for the time being.

Looks like the rescuers won't return until tomorrow. Eight down, four boys and their coach left to go.

Amazing, I was expecting a longer period of getting them out that cave. Look like they could wrap up this rescue in a few days.

Could be wrapped up by tomorrow!

I have read from multiple sources that the boys are being kept in "quarantine" and their parents haven't been allowed to see them yet. Can anyone think of any logical reason for this, especially since they are saying that they are in relatively good health? The only possibility that I can think of is to control information about which boys have been rescued so far since that has been, to my knowledge, closely guarded. I'm not quite sure why that would be so important as to keep these kids away from their parents even longer though. I have absolutely zero idea about how Thai law works but I'm curious if that is even legal over there?

Are they telling the parents if their kids were among the ones rescued and just not letting them see them? Or are they making them agonize over their fate while they keep the names hidden under lock and key?

I thought I read earlier that they were keeping them quarantined because they don't know if they picked up any random bacteria and didn't want them to catch some sort of random infection. Something like that anyways. Just making sure they're clear of risk of infection/disease prior to releasing them. Makes sense I suppose, seems a bit overkill considering what they went through. At least let them see their parents/families.
