TGS- New PS3 Black or White

Not sure what the point of this is. Don't like the corrugated look either. No word on a die shrink or anything? Sigh, I miss the old Fat PS3s. Despite the cooling issues, they were some of the best consoles ever made.

When I heard about a new PS3 design, the cynic in me wondered what feature Sony would remove this time. But I guess instead of removing features, they just decided to raise the price instead.

How many models does the PS3 need? Isn't this a giant waste of engineering/design funds?

TROLL!

The low-end Super Slim sports more hard drive space than the current low-end PS3 it is replacing (250GB vs. 160GB), and the $270 bundle also includes a copy of Uncharted 3: Game of the Year edition, which usually runs about $40 on its own.

So Suddenly giving you 90GB more HDD space and a free game and one of the best games of this generation is considered raising the price when it's a measely $20?

Yes, I freely admit that it was something of a troll post. But hey, look what I caught. 🙂

Consoles get lots of spec bumps without the price being raised. As for the game bundle, the main objection in the Ars article is that it gets forced on you - there is no opt out/lower price version.

since there's no PS4 slated for release this holiday season, Sony has to do something to fool unsuspecting parents that it has a new system out to compete with the Wii U.

You don't make sense. The 160GB is $250 now. For $20 more you get a game that retails for $40 and 90GB more HDD space. That's a better deal than before. Quit trying to spin it into a bad thing. They give you a pack in game now!!

It is not to fool people it is to add value and thus increase sales, which were slowing pretty significantly.

I'm kind of pissed the 16GB model isn't coming to the US(hear me out, will ya 😉 ).

I have a couple of PS3s that have dead BR drives, I got ~6 years out of them, no complaints. It would be extremely nice if I could pick up one of the 16GB models for $220 and drop my existing hard drive in to one(already checked, yes it still has the HD bay user accessible).

What value is added? 90GB and ridges?

Who the heck needs that much space. I'm on a 60GB fat and doing fine.

REAL value would have been USB ports, backwards compatibility, or basically the things that my 60GB fat already has but was taken out down the line...

Many people use that space. I've had to delete many games because my 120gb is almost constantly full.

I'm pushing 200GB usage in mine. Downloaded Playstation Plus games and Rock Band music will do that to you very fast.

Strange. What's on it? I consider myself as having a large PS3 collection, and I've managed with 60GB. 250GB seems like such overkill.

Like my 360. I have an 100GB version, and I don't think I've ever used more than 20GB of it.

You've obviously never downloaded a game or a bunch of rock band music. Infamous 2 alone was 14 gb.

No, I always get disc version. Some have installs, but they are usually below 4GB.

And yeah, no rock band music. How much is a song?

Free PS Plus games, and with my 360 I install every game disc I buy. DLC adds even more.

Does anyone know how quiet these new PS3s are? My old fatty seems to spin up its fan very quickly now in my new set up and gets quite loud, so I'm thinking of replacing it with one of these new ones, but if the fan noise is not going to be significantly quieter, than I may need to look at other options.

Thanks.
