TF2 now supports multicore!

Added Multicore Rendering:

*This initial release is aimed at testing compatibility, so the option is OFF by default

*To turn it on, go to the Options->Video->Advanced dialog, and check the "Multicore Rendering" option


Other Changes:

*Several performance improvements to decals and client bone/flex setup

*A variety of alt-tab and mode switch fixes

*Improvements to the way the engine initializes surround sound, fixing some specific hardware cases

*Fixed a crash on exit in Vista 64




So the alt tab problem is gone, the DEP error when exiting the game on Vista 64 is gone, and multicore support! Woooooo!

Kudos to valve for keeping support for a game up this long.

I still get a crash error every single time I exit that game. Just an annoyance really, but doesn't seem right to always do that. My DEP is set to only Windows progs and services.

I don't get the crash error anymore. I have always had DEP set to run for everything.

I tried the multi-core rendering option and I noticed some performance improvements in crowded servers, but it's definitely there, and it's finally stable, at least for me, I played three different games on two maps (Goldrush and 2FORT), for a good two hours non-stop, and I didn't get a single issue whatsoever, smoother than before on most occasions, it's just great.

When i tested out the multicore options a few mounths ago I was pretty much locked at 60fps (vsync) no matter my settings or how busy the server was, it never dipped.

It did crash in a lot of maps though (2fort was ok) so hopfully its a bit more stable now they have offficially released it.

I've played a bit with it so far with multicore enabled and no crashes for me since the update.

TF2 is crashing consistantly since this patch. I have never once crashed before and now I can't play more than 5 minutes. This is with and without multi-core turned on.

I'm crashing alot since this update too (with multicore on or off), no crashes at all before. Crashes after about 30 mins for me.

I was only crashing in 2Fort so I figured it was the water.

r_WaterDrawRefraction 0

...fixed it for me but made the water look like crap.

Well lemme see, wikipedia says it came out Oct. 10, 2007 so that's an 18 month old title. It's 19.99 from steam. In video games, that's old. In Valve terms, it's not so long in the tooth considering the active fan base still around the Quake 1 mod counterstrike.

That P3 is overclocked like stink ;)

I think it's really a video card driver optimization.

This fixed the crashing when exiting for me. I didn't notice any performance difference as many of us wouldn't with higher end systems but fixing the crash was great.

Yeah? how does it run at 1920x1200 with 16xAA and 16XAF?

That was at 1920x1200.

Why would you run TF2 at 16xaa?
