TF2 hatless update

AFAIK, they never did actually fix the huntsman. It's still using hitboxes and some iffy math to determine if it's a headshot, versus the rifle.

The huntsman is a projectile weapon (like the rocket launcher), while the regular rifle is a hitscan weapon (instant-hit-no-travel-time bullets). People's gripe with the huntsman is that it uses the same hitbox as grenades, so you have a tiny little arrow that can land a hit as long as its larger hitbox connects with an enemy (i.e. an arrow close to your head is a headshot instead of a miss).

Apparently Valve reverted the changes to the Demoman's and Engineer's melee weapons (the -25% damage). Nice... except they specifically do not say anything about the No Crit being reintroduced, so it looks like in the end these weapons had their only downside (no random crits) removed after the back and forth changes. Melee is already ridiculously powerful, it didn't need to be more so. I do not get Valve's obsession with high rate random bursts of damage that clearly favor certain classes over others. 😵

For game play value the hit box of the arrow really does need to be bigger than the arrow itself. Having such a smaller projectile in a game like tf2 would make it a very difficult weapon to use.

... so don't put it into the game? If they had to compensate for weapon limitations by using things like larger hitboxes, then they probably should have scrapped the idea from the start and gone with something else (a crossbow maybe?).

Do you really think the hit boxes on any of the medic's guns are to size of the projectile? Also, crossbows have smaller arrows than a standard bow. If you download the sdk tools you can use the model viewer to open up any of the models and view hit boxes.

Personally, I could care less about a single weapon when the net code in the game is so shitty.

It's not so much the "realism" of the huntsman...it's just that it has to get within 2 feet of your head and it's counted as a headshot because of the ridiculous hitbox. I get the concept of head shots; rewarding you for accuracy. With the huntsman, you get rewarded for getting lucky and getting sorta close to accurate....

With as many people that complain about it, I'm quite surprised that they haven't fixed the hit box yet.

I've tried playing with the new update, but Steam crashes after about 5-10 minutes every time I fire up the game. All of my other games are working fine, but TF2 is borked after this update. I'm not alone, since I posted in a thread on the Steam forums as well. Not sure if anything has been fixed yet though.

Or... they could keep it in the game because it's a ridiculously fun weapon to use, and quite well balanced. It's only a game man... not even a "serious" game.

I have seen a few people complaining of crashing since the update. I haven't played yet, hope I have no problems.

BTW did I read correctly that they not only did not nerf demo melee, they made it more powerful? That axe is easily the most overpowered weapon in the game, I hope I'm wrong about this.

That sucks, I haven't had it crash while playing at all. It does crash now though when I alt-tab which it never did before for me.

Yeah it stinks. I'll give it another shot tonight in-between periods.

I hate when updates break things for people. 🙁

I haven't played the update yet, but regarding the backburner change, I do just fine without the airblast. In fact, I like that it doesn't have it because less people use it, and pyro vs. pyro, I almost always come out on top. Not to mention, you can drop a heavy/medic really quickly from behind. If I want airblast, I'll just use the degreaser... I'd rather have the full 15% and no airblast :-/

You're not a team player. Airblast is probably the most useful thing in the whole game.

I'm surprised you were not getting slaughtered in pyro v pyro combat using it. A degreaser pyro should be bouncing you and shotgunning.

TF2 is dead to me. I sucked badly enough when it was new, but at least I could sort of compete. Now with all the new items, hat enthusiasts, and assorted crap, there's no way I'll ever install it again.

This! I loved this game when it first came out and logged 1600 hours of play. Once the hats and other crap were introduced i quit. Why are adult gamers playing dress-up like they're eight year-old girls with Barbie Dolls?

It's very server dependent. Instant Respawn, nobody actually cares 2fort is going to have plenty of it. Arena servers also tend to have more then usual - but that's because it's something to do while you're dead.

The main server I play on though, you can ask once during setup, but do it often enough to annoy people and the admins will kick you.

well said. This is not a game you can play for a while, leave, then come back a couple months later and pick up. If I go back to play now, I'm hammered in seconds...no fun. I miss TFC.

The game is still great, you guys all sound like angry elderly guys. The game has changed....just adapt...it's still fun. Or quit and complain.

I haven't been playing TF2 in the last 6 months nearly as much as I used to since other games have occupied my time. But honestly, I have no problem picking it back up after being away for a month and adapting to a handful of new items. Of course I won't do as well as I once did since I'm no longer playing on a regular basis. Have you ever stopped playing a sport or musical instrument for an extended period of time and then gone back to it? Any skill requires constant practice or else you lose your edge. Same concept applies to video games.
