TF2 has PC/xbox360 player connectivity

Valve apparently has successfully completed the addition of the feature no one really wants. 😛

All details aren't forthcoming, but here are the possible scenarios and how they will play out:

1) No changes/advantages/disadvantages added to either the PC or xbox360's controls. PC players will destroy xbox players on a regular basis, making them second class gamers. Xbox360 only servers will appear, PC and xbox360 users will self segregate.

2) Xbox360 is given auto aim in order to "level the playing field". PC users annoyed with this disparity will create PC only servers. The users will self segregate.

3) PC users are handicapped to "leve the playing field". PC users do not buy or play the game and instead play FF. Or they mod there way out of the situation (less likely), again leaving the xbox users segregated.

This seems like its gonna suck though.

It had team based gameplay better than Counter-Strike years before it. Need I say more?

Yeah... Team Fortress is about a hundred million times better than Counter-Sh!t.

Counterstrike has teamplay? I guess I do use my teammates to test if there is a sniper around the corner, but thats about it.

why are people making cross platform play such a big deal for shooters...i'd much rather see it in a sports or racing game.

You will... but they had to start somewhere.
And there are a lot of people out there that swear they're just as good if not better with a gamepad than a keyboard+mouse for FPS games. This will be a good way for them to put up or shut up so to speak. 😉

I wish companies would stop trying to merge these platforms. They each offer unique gaming experiences as-is and should be left separate. As far as controls go, I really wish MS would just allow KB/M support for FPS games, then I could finally stop hearing PC-only gamers jizz on themselves about mice. It would be a moot argument at that point. Anyway, it's pretty clear that the average PC gamer with a mouse is going to be better than the average person using a controller, but there will be a quite a few PC gamers that aren't as good as they think getting their asses handed to them by people using controllers. There are some damned good players out there.

another scenario:

XBOX360 finally adds keyboard and mouse support for the the 360, the ownage stops until the PC hackers start using wall hacks and aimbots.

<-------PC and XBOX360 gamer

Microsoft will not allow KB/M support on the xbox. They don't want to cannibalize their OS sales. They would have done so by now if they were ever going to do that.

"Rush bombsite B" 😛 (thats where the teamwork begins and ends)

That may be the reason why they aren't doing it, but it's not a valid reason. I fail to see how it would have any impact at all. People don't buy consoles because of a lack of KB/M support... that doesn't even make any sense. They buy them because they easy to use, are easily placed in their entertainment centers, and are better for social gaming (i.e. friends at your house, not across the internet). It's not like people are going to say, "Hey, I can now use a mouse on my 360, guess I don't need my PC anymore". Also, given that UT3 on PS3 is going to support KB/M, there is a chance MS will be forced to respond likewise.

MS may indeed be forced to respond. But it will be just that, forced. People ARE going "I don't need my PC for games anymore" even without the mouse. PC Games are filled with ports these days, often late ports of old console games. Most of the bigger titles are released on xbox360 and PC at the same time. And there are fewer and fewer PC exclusives. The mouse and mods are really the only thing that gives it a really strong advantage in a lot of people's minds.

One need only look at the artifical vista only limitation for DX10 to see that MS knows PC games sell their OS to a lot of people. MS wants to have its cake and eat it too here, and for whatever reason they are drawing their line on the interface.

I agree it isn't a valid reason, and given some of the success third parties have had at making it happen w/o microsoft's consent it may be a forgone conclusion...but I still feel its the reason.

TF2 looks like crap, no way ill buy it.

No one still plays TFC because it "looks good."

I play TFC probably every day even if just for half an hour. The gameplay just rocks.

I actually like the cell shading comic bookish style they went for. It actually fits the somewhat outlandish gameplay style well IMO, its not like a lot of the classes and weapons were realistic to begin with.

With all the "realistic" team-based shooters out, they needed to change the style if they were going to stand out.

Exactly. And it works, very well.
