this makes me SERIOUSLY re-consider my plans to get a 6800GT (or NV45/PciE for that matter). There seems to be a bug with Nvidias AF... (???) and some videos i saw (see some of the threads above) look HORRIBLE.

I dont think i wanna spend $500 for a card and then have horribe jaggies in games.....

Edit:

I am/was STRONGLY leaning toward a 6800GT (as a former ATI user, 8500 and now a 9800Pro), but now i start thinking...the only benefit of the 6800 is nice performance in Doom 3, so..ehrm..ok...Doom 3.... yay.... ok...

Most other games are D3D and the ATI cards perform better there and image quality seems to be better with ATI anyways....if Nvidia has such stupid bugs (WHICH STILL HAS TO BE INVESTIGATED IN)....well......i think i might rather get a X800 and live with a few FPS less in Doom3...and have more joy with the all the other games....... ?

Option 2)

Wait even LONGER for ATI R480 coming out ("end of the year") and PRAY that it has PS3.0 support.... i am waiting so long for all that stuff (Nforce 4, NV45)...i almost dont care anymore if its a month more or less...

Edit: I had this posting for over a day on GH and not ONE reply....i am very surprised because i conside this a MAJOR thing in case its confirmed by many people.....definatly as big that i would chose ATI over Nvidia for my next build

I don't get this with my 6800GT, it probably has something to do with the driver revision they were using.

I also noticed that if I didn't have my slider set to very high quality then I had some serious shimmering, but just changing that helped.

Just run rivatuner.

Set AA to x4S

Set Lod to -0.3

Issue solved. and it looks better overall :)

Agreed. When I used a few of the beta drivers they would have this problem if I didn't have it set to high quality with the AF and trilinear opts turned off. With 61.77 I don't have this problem at all no matter what the settings are.

Actually that whole forum is good for a laff now, it used to be a place where you could learn quite a bit about 3d, lots of devs, hw guys, etc, w/o favoring any 1 vendor but now it's been taken over by the ATI "shills" like Walt, T2K, DW, JVC, BZB and a few others.
The site admins refuse to crack down on the trolling that goes on leading one to believe that they are giving thier tacit approval to the nonsense.
Shame, B3D was one of the best.

6800gt here too no shimmering for me......66.81's

i have never tried to put the quality slider to high performance...i think it degrades IQ quite noticably (in 3d mark as thats the only place i tried it) anything less than high quality is stupid for 2days games as the 6800 gt can take them all in its stride

I have seen some problems with the AF on my 6800gt, but my x800xt-pe has some issues with AF in various places as well.
